About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with heart murmur at age 2. The only advise the doctors gave my mom was for me to take antibiotics before dental procedures and not to run in P.E. Actually, I never had any problems except shortness of breath when climbing stairs for many many years. . Diagnosed with Ebstein's at age 56, and found out it is extremely rare. I had no idea that I could have something that is progressive and might need surgery sooner or later. I also have a patent formalen ovulum. PFO. That's a kind of hole that has a flap on it. Still, without many symptoms, my cardiologist said that all I needed to do was come to bi-yearly checkups and keep an out for problems. Last visit, he says the EKG now shows Atrial fib and a low cardiac output. I was hoping things would not decline so fast. And, I was hoping that by the time I really needed surgery, it would be so advanced that I would have to make decisions between mechanical and animal valves. I think it would be much better to grow my own!!! So, I'm looking for researchers working in stem cells, catheter placed valves and other new technologies to follow in the news, and hoping I will still be healthy enough to take advantage of them as they become available. Meanwhile I have an Echo tomorrow and I'm thinking that Time might be catching up with me.
