About Me (In My Own Words)
My father was diagnosed with a BAV almost 20 years ago due to symptoms. He replaced his valve at 62 years old with a bioprosthetic valve. After learning that BAV can be hereditary, I tested and learned I was the "lucky" one out of three children. I've been monitoring ever since and in April 2025 at the age of 55, I learned the valve stenosis was now severe. The aortic aneurysm is at 4.5. My surgeon will be replacing the valve with the Inspiris Resilia and the descending aortic root will also be repaired. I've known that surgery was in my future but I wasn't mentally prepared for it happening in my mid-fifties. Update: The surgery was a success. I spent a few days in ICU due primarily to my blood pressure not willing to cooperate and then moved to a step down unit for a couple days. Including surgery day I was in for 6 days. After coming home, I quickly sprung in to action with my diet and walking. Sleeping has been a little rough, but overall, I'm very pleased with my progress.
