About Me (In My Own Words)
My first specialist in Cardiology who found, in my body check, that mildly calcify in my aortic valve in 2011 and then in 2016 advised me to replace the calcified aortic valve in public hospital. I followed his recommendation to schedule the replacement on 13 July 2016 in a public hospital. The day before the operation, a doctor who would carry out tge surgery, told my wife and me that she could not confirm the extend of the replacement of the dilated thoracic aorta and my body and the brain might need to be frozen for the replacement. The failure risk is about 10%, both my wife and me felt extremely fear. Nevertheless, in the morning of 13 July 2016, I was ready to take the replacement in the hospital, suddenly I was told that there was an emergency operation and my surgury needed to be postponed two weeks and I needed to leave the hospital on 13 July first. After the discharging, I sought an second opinion and the specialist in Cardiothoracic Surgery in private hospital. He clearly advised the portion of the dilated thoracic and the risk for the biscupid aortic valve and dilated thoracic aorta replacement is only 2 to 3%. Therefore my wife and me decided to carry out the surgery by Dr. Clement Chiu who I believe is the best Cardiothoracic Surgeon in Hong Kong. The operation was successfully finished on 20 Aug. 2016. After waking up on the second day, I felt only a little pain on my chest because of the use of pain killer, the pain had been kept on the first and second weeks. But I would like to thank my wife who has stayed with me 24 hours a day in the first week to provide all the assistance to my basic needs e.g. drinking, eating, sitting up, etc. I really love her very much for her caring and support after the operation. Now, on 28 Aug. 2016, more than a month from the operation, I feel much better and am recovering very well. Each day, I have walking with my wife for about 30mins. to 1 hour. I think this exercise helping me a lot for the recovery. Even though there was pain after the open chest surgery, the support from family is really important and the difficult time must be passed by. I hope that the people who needs the surgery will get well very soon and can have the caring from the family. Lastly , I would like to thanks Dr. Chiu, Dr. Ko, my wife Ting, my brother Ray Chu, my friends Gray Choi, Ken Hui, the nurses, Lisa, Tracy, etc. Good luck!
