About Me (In My Own Words)
Although I was controlling my blood pressure with medication, I suffered an ascending aortic aneurysm burst while home alone (age 57). I survived, by God's grace, and my new Cardiologists, Dr. Brij Bhambi (Bakersfield) and Suhial Dohad (Beverly Hills) later detected a descending aortic dissection. They referred me to the head of the Aortic Clinic at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles), Dr. Ali Khoynezhad, who found a new and previously undetected life-threatening aneurysm in my aorta just next to my aortic valve. My second surgery occurred on March 26, 2013 (I was age 60) and lasted 9-1/2 hours. Some microscopic plaque became loose and moved into my brain, but after 3 more hours of surgery with Dr. K and his team at Cedars-Sinai just a few hours following my first surgery, I was alive, though I had suffered a stroke that left me with complete right-side paralysis (I couldn't even move my fingers or toes). My doctors and nurses and the young staff in the 7th Floor SW Rehabilitation Unit at Cedars had me walking again in a matter of days. My new Pericardial Tissue aortic valve from Edwards Lifesciences (Irvine, CA) is still working great. I can't thank my surgeon, Dr. Khoynezhad ("Dr. K"), and his entire surgical and rehab team for giving me back my life.
