About Me (In My Own Words)
After a lot of visits to various doctors I was diagnosed with very severe aortic stenosis in June 2008. Since I played sports I went for a bovine tissue valve which meant that I only had to take a 75mg aspirin tablet each day.
For 10 years I was fine apart from lightheadedness when diving around on the sports field and the maximum I could run easily was only 2 to 3Km.
During the later part of 2019 I caught a chest infection which took me off work for 8 weeks. Even after that time I felt really tired still and had noticed that my heartbeat was sounding in my ears especially at night. It also came with bouts of tachycardia usually out of the blue. Once again getting an accurate diagnosis proved difficult and I was being treated for an ENT issue. eventually I talked a new Dr into arranging an echo for me ( I should have just paid for one myself but had only done that 8 months earlier. Eventually I had the echo and was immediately sent to the cardio ward for further tests wine they suspect endocarditis. It turned out that the "vegetation" they had spotted was due to a tear in the old valve .
After an extremely long month or so my implant was replaced with an Inspiris Resilia valve and the end of February last year. Thought being that it is designed to take a TAVi next time round, hopefully not for a while yet. The operation went will but due to Covid I have not been able to organise my rehabilitation as I would have liked nor go back to work yet
