About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi! I am 62 years old. I am an elementary teacher . Last August I was diagnosed with severe mitral stenosis due to rheumatic fever while visiting my daughter in New York. I had an atipic neumonia and I was in the ICU for 4 days. I came back to Mexico and then went to Houston where they performed a transesophageal eco. Doctors told me that there was an interventionist mitral valve repair with a balloon that might help me. Unfortunately, my insurance said they only would pay for the open heart surgery for the valve replacement. I am really terrified! Several years ago I usted to work as a cardiology nurse and I worked in the ICU and operating rooms at he National Cardiology Institute here in Mexico. I have nightmares and I see my patients intubated desperately trying to take the tube out, and then I also see them screaming in pain!😢 and I hear the doctors saying: there is nothing we can do for him/her let them go and tell the relatives we did all we could. I have been crying a lot every day, feeling I won’t come out from the OR alive. Thank you for listening to me and I really appreciate your advice.
Warmest regards,
Ana
