About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with a heart murmur, it was discovered when I was in 5th grade. No issues with the heart until my first semester in college when it started irregular beats due to stress. Diagnosed in my 20's with regurgitation, saw the doctor every year. They thought I'd have to get it fixed in my 70's. (I did have periodic afib but always came out of it if I laid flat on my stomach for a few minutes...) Jump to my 50's and the regurgitation increased. My file was sent to Mayo and their review was to not repair or replace yet. It seems like as soon as I turned 59 I was going into afib and not able to get myself out of it. Cardioversions took place every 6 months and the cardiac team said I need to get this fixed. Fast forward to Feb 2021, valve was replaced with a pig valve. A year later I am experiencing issues with high heart beat - not from valve but from atrial tachycardia. Very disappointed - I'm lined up for my third ablation in April. I have been on just about every antiarrhythmic drug in the past year - they have not been successful in keeping me in sinus rhythm. Back on amiodarone this weekend to lower the rate until the next ablation. Not what I expected even though the surgeon said I may have afib after the surgery.
