Valerie,
I am 62 yrs old and had a mitral valve replaced just about. 3 months ago. I chose a tissue valve because if you choose a mechanical one you HAVE to stay on Coumidin the rest of your life. If you have a colonoscopy or root canal or other surgery,it is a major big deal because of the risk for bleeding. If I go 3 more months with no A -Fib I can probably get off Coumidin. Granted tissue valves don\'t last forever but my. dr said in 15years when my valve may need to be replaced, advances will be made and a new valve could be placed inside the old one. Hope this helps. You can read my journal.
