Hi Sharon and welcome to the forum! I hope you'll find it very helpful to be here.
I'm sorry your grandson needs surgery. Two great things are that kids are very resilient and that heart surgery has become safer and more successful than ever. They will have him up and walking the halls within a day or two of his surgery.
I'm a bit confused about what he's having done. If a mechanical valve is involved, he'd have to be on Warfarin. It sounded like you were saying he's getting a mechanical valve with no blood thinnner? And the pulmonary valve is actually one of four valves in the heart. Anyway, I know it's hard to have a loved one walking through serious surgery.
I read the note you posted to Tamika J. If you get a chance, you may want to post a note about your grandson's surgery along with your questions to your own journal so people can find your comments more easily. Click up top where it says "My Journal" on your home page and you can start a post from there.
I hope everything goes very smoothly for your grandson this week!
