Hey Russell. I am 45 and have been tracking my Bicuspid valve for 30+ years. I am a very active guy who gets a lot of exercise in. I have been a firefighter for 29 years, (unfortunately only 19 putting into retirement..) Anyhow, I have thought about the same question for a long time and I am very averse to a mechanical valve for the anti-coagulant reason. Take a look at the new Edwards valve - https://www.edwards.com/devices/heart-valves/resilia I am getting closer to the day when it will be needed, but not close enough that I've actually talked to the Cardiologist or Surgeon about the choice yet. I'd love to hear what you decide, and why.. Travis

Hello, My diagnosis was exactly the same. Surgery was at Northwestern University in Chicago. I chose a tissue valve and I'm very happy with my choice. I was 62 at the time of surgery and that was five years ago. I'm a very athletic person so surgery went well despite complications.
