My name is Alex Vigil, I am going through the same thing with my Bicuspid Aortic VAlve,I need a replacement in the next 3 months and I am a Surgical Nurse,RNFA which my wife says I am going to drive myself crazy with all the research and questions I ask the surgeons I work with in the OR. Good Luck, I am also in the process of flying to DUKE U to meet a surgeon. This is very tough.
I know the feeling, I went in for my routine echo in June, thinking nothing of it and am now set for surgery. The good news is that you will find all the support and information you need. There is now a lot out there on this. The book is absolutely fantastic and will provide a lot of great information. Of course use the people on here to ask questions about experience and so forth.
All the best and shout out if you have any questions,
Welcome to HVJ! You will find much information & support here! :)
So many others before you, have "climbed the mountain" and are willing to share their experiences. Adam has created a wonderful site for us. Read, read, read these journals....I know how much it helped me as I started my own journey...you will do great...(even if you do have lots of nurse info in your head..lol...my daughter is a clinical pharmacist & I think she worried more than I did :) but knowledge is power...and you are armed and ready!..
Good Luck on your journey!.... I will be watching for your updates.. :)
BTW, I have been to Seal Beach (my son lives in San Diego)...so very beautiful there....great place to recover....that alone will speed your recovery.. :).
Take Care..and once again...Welcome!
