Hi Kris - This is Lisa again, just a follow up regarding your comments about re-repair and Womenheart. I'm sorry there wasn't a meeting near you. I know the heart sister match can work well, but if it's not now, contact them again and let them know. They want it to work and I am sure there is someone that is a good fit.
You can certainly live with a moderately leaky valve - there are folks out there with leaky valves who don't know it. It really depends on how your heart functions otherwise. Also, I have the same side affect as you do, my upper chamber is super large but I was told by several doctors from the Mayo Clinic that lots of folks live with that as well. It can lead to afib (and they will treat the afib), but it's not something they do surgery for just on it's own - you'd have to have other signs of heart failure.
Good luck to you and keep asking questions!
