Jo, I just had exam that identified my having an ascending aortic aneurysm. Since you list Aortic Aneurysm under your Journal heading I'm wondering if you could tell me: Is there a minimal type surgery thru a vein that can repair this, OR is it required to open the chest cavity? I'm in the Pacific NW where NO Surgeon Medical Center is listed on Adams list. Do I take a chance on a local Surgeon or travel to one of the more 'proven centers'? Did YOU travel?

Andrea Webb Jo, I saw your post regarding your aortic aneurysm. There is no way to repair the aneurysm except for open heart surgery, unfortunately. I asked the very same questions. Once it is large enough to operate per medical guidelines, think hard about making it elective because the mortality rate if it bursts is 100%. Fortunately, I had mine repaired at the same time as my aortic valve was replaced. If it had not met the criteria it would have required a second OHS at some point, so I am thankful for that. I'm located in Phoenix so I was lucky to have an amazing surgeon locally. Good luck!
