We are so glad to hear that Jack is doing well. I was going to send Jack an email from work to let you guys know we were thinking about you. We do not have access to Yahoo! at work and I remembered something about SDEF so I went on the net and just typed in John W. Laws. I then went to your website for DCI Engineers. That was very cool and a great picture, Jack. I was trying to remember the name of the bank in Frisco that was kind of maroon (I think) with like a copper spire on it that you designed. A couple of years ago one of my daughter-in-law's mother had travelled to San Francisco and she took a picture of that building because she thought it was so pretty. I remember telling her how you were a part of the design team. Small world. Yesterday, the guy I share an office with and I were talking about that movie, The Rock, and I remembered the retrofitting of the great bandshell by the aquarium following the quake of 1989. I am very proud of you, Jack, and I admire your determination and heart, no pun intended. You are blessed to have such a wife as Rhonda.

Thanks for your kind words. Your right, I have been lucky to live and work in San Francisco, including working on the 2 buildings you mention (I can,t remember which bank is in there now, but the building with the dome is 100 Front St.). The hard part about living here is not getting to see the family enough, including you guys. Hopefully Rhonda and I can retire before too many more years pass, so that we can travel a bit more and see everyone e a bit more often.

Yo, Jack, you seem to be copying me. I had a heart attack three years ago and it took me three days to figure it out. What a shock! I had a stent placed in my aorta and now I'm fairly functioning. I can't run, but yoga, hiking, swimming are OK. I'm not as manic about writing anymore, I did manage to prepare three books for publishing in the weeks leading up to the attack. Hmmm. After seeing THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL I decided that I had to get back to Asia before I kicked the bucket. I should retire from Santa Monica College this summer, so perhaps I'll be in the Himmies by next spring.

I'm doing better with less shoulder pain each day, walk at lease 2 times aday and keep busy rest of the time. Plan on going back to work april 1st but could be later see dr in cpl more weeks. have been eating better just need to get more fruits in and try and eat in between to stay full.. keep up the good work and i will keep praying for you for contunie recovery.Ps maybe some day sent we live about 2 hours away we can find a way to meet just to say hi.

I will keep checking in but plan to be "unplugged" for the most part for a week or so while we are in FL.... John and I can't wait to get away from the cold for a while! It has been a brutal mid-western winter.

Today we went for a walk around the Elmwood and Rockridge areas of Berkeley/Oakland. Trying to do as much walking as I can. A bit tiring, but also a bit like being on vacation. Had some Zachary's pizza for lunch.
Rhonda's parents have colds, so they are staying home for now. I will miss Rhonda next week.

The good news is that Rhonda seems to have recovery firmly planted in her mind, so it's a good trade-off!
