Hi Gesyciah ,
I had a severely leaking mitral valve and have a mechanical mitral valve .
 I had emergency open heart surgery over four years ago , during covid times .
This website has lots of info , try and read around about open heart surgery if you have the time . 
The recovery we have after surgery is different for everyone . I didn ‘t have any pain . 
Having some loose tee - shirts can help while you are recovering . 
Extra pillows to prop you up at home .
 A long phone charger for the ward . 
A small blanket or similar . 
I hope that they given you any advice / leaflets / a contact number to speak to a cardiac nurse / cardiologist .
