Gail, I am so happy I came across your journal! I am having the DaVinci robotic surgery to repair my mitral value on July 7th. I really haven't seen anyone chatting about it. I saw two surgeons, the same as you did and my choice was with Dr. Trento who also was a pioneer in the field and is the chief of heart surgery at Cedar Sinai in Los Angeles. I was glad to read about your post op...because lately is was getting a bit worried. Keep us updated on your recovery. Linda

Gail Otis Linda, I am so glad that my journal helped to put you at ease. I am now doing everything that I want to do and continue to be thankful that I had Da Vinci robotic surgery to repair my mitral valve. I wish you all the best.

Gail, I had my Aortic valve replaced via a minimally invasive approach 3 years ago this March. My surgery went very well and I had incredible care. Mine was done in Colorado Springs, CO. The key is to research the doctor and just as important is the anesthesiologist. Since they would not be cracking your sternum, they will be entering via ports and that makes the anesthesiologist work more critical. I golfed 3 weeks after my surgery. I would not go any other way. Also, consider natural valve over synthetic so you are not on blood thinners the rest of your life.
Gail Otis Thanks, Steve. Your experience is an inspiration.

I had robotic surgery last October at Cleveland Clinic and I think it was a great decision. I had minimal pain and recovery was quick and a lot easier. I slept in bed my first night home which seems to be a problem with those having sternectamy. Good luck with your decision.
Gail Otis Thanks, Gary. Knowing your experience helps.
