Evan,
My heart catherization showed I had a total occlusion of my right coronary artery. However, my body grew collateral arteries around the blockage like a mini bypass. I also have 2 blockages in the LAD branch that we are treating medically. The CT revealed I had a bicuspid valve with a low raphe. It also provided many measurements of artery size etc. I could have gone SAVR or TAVR. I chose TAVR and it was truly remarkable. I was home in less than 36 hours. I had transfemoral TAVR, but there other approaches. The important thing to me was that I was at a teaching hospital that had done over 1000 TAVRs. You get many different opinions on TAVR. I had 3 Interventionalist cardiologists present and a cardiac thoracic surgeon. They work together in a heart team. It is like an orchestra. If you have any other questions let me know. In the end the heart team looks at everything and recommends what they believe is best for you.
Well, I've undergone the cardiac catheterization which indicated no blockages!! I followed this with the CT scan of abdomen, pelvis, etc. While the nurse wasn't authorized to reveal the precise results, she indicated that the vendors are preparing the new valve based on the measurements from the CT scan. The goal is to proceed with the TAVR with an entry through the groin.
I have an appointment with my TAVR surgeon on January 3. I call him "Dr TAVR!" Procedure currently scheduled for January 26.
Anything I should be doing in preparation? Thanks.
