Hi Bob,
I was just surfing through the stories and came upon yours.I too had AVR surgery (BWH) this last January and am doing great . My best advice to you is;don't rush things and do too much too soon and listen closely to what your body is telling you, and you'll be back at 100% before you know it..

Hi Bob,
Congratulations. Home and recovering is a good thing. The first week home is the toughest. It does continue to get easier and you get stronger but go slowly.
Best wishes and continued success in your healing process.

Good morning to you. Glad you are home. I am down the road from you in Wellesley. I had my mitral valve repaired on 11/5 at Mt. Sinai by Dr. Adams. It was a tricky little repair. Which hospital did you use? I hope you have a good reentry home. All the best.

This was definately the most difficult decision I ever made. I'm 45 and had my aortic valve replaced with an ON-X Mechanical valve. It ultimately came down to not wanting to have another surgery 5-15 years down the road. I chose the ON-X because it is quieter and may be able to use a different type of blood thinner in 2015 if ON-X gets FDA approval.

Bob much like you I had Aortic valve repair at 11 and had a Bovine tissue Aortic valve and ascending aortic graph replacement in January at the age of 42. I choose to go with bovine to avoid the use of blood thinners the rest of my life.

Welcome Bob.
I just turned 50 the day after my surgery.
For myself, I went with a bovine tissue valve because: 1. I didn't want to deal with the blood thinners for a mechanical valve. 2. I didn't want to hear the clicking of the mechanical valve as it opened and closed. 3. Hopefully in the future by the time I need this one replaced, the TAVR procedure will be more common to replace the heart valve.

Bob Howard Thanks for the feedback Ernie. I agree with your points. I just can't decide if I want to roll the dice with the TAVR and potentially be in the same exact position in 10-15 years.
