Hi Ann
I had endocarditis three and a half years ago. Strep mitis. While being diagnosed, the infection caused vegetation to grow on my valve, causing severe regurgitation. I was admitted to hospital, as I could not breathe well, even while sitting. While in hospital, the endocarditis was diagnosed, and I went on intravenous antibiotics. Within 10 days, I had my aortic valve replaced. Since then, I have been fine.
I had an echo regularly during the first year post surgery, and there is no regurgitation at all.
My EF is now over 50%, so things are pretty good.
The main thing is to ensure the endocarditis has gone, and your heart is still fine.
Best wishes
William
