Hi! I’m being discharged as I type. Yay! Liver enzymes went down, potassium is good and echo looks great too. I’m happy to be going home! For anyone about to get this surgery I can already tell you it was well worth it 👍 Dr Accola and his team are world class! I’m forever grateful to them and their caring nurses and techs!

Jane Born Hi Guys! Thank you! 🙏🏻Definitely taking it one day at a time. I’m able to get to a little above 1500 on the spirometer and it thrills me. I’m still very tired though. Taking a shower tires me out. I did not sleep much last night as they forgot (at discharge) to prescribe me the muscle relaxer (Robaxin) was taking in the hospital. Got it today so looking forward to a better night sleep tonight. I appreciate all your well wishes and support 🥰

Hi everyone! I’m post surgery day 3! My surgery went well with Dr Accola! Super sweet guy and amazing surgeon. I was under for only one hour and went upstairs from CCU the afternoon after my AVR. I do have a small pneumothorax and my pericardium is a little inflamed so I’m a bit nervous about that. They are going to take an Xray again this morning to see if I will need a chest tube. Fingers crossed I won’t but we see. It’s not fun being short of breath. I’m walky3-4 times per day around the nurses station and it’s great not to feel dizzy anymore! Hopefully my lungs will improve. Scary. I’m on oxygen therapy for now. More to come..

Jane Born Thank you everyone! I saw the pulmonologist and he took me off the oxygen. He said that I don’t need it anymore. He said the small pneumothorax will resolve on its own in a few days to a week so that is good. He said to keep walking and also put me back on doing the incentive spirometer. I also got a new day nurse who looks like Thor! He’s super nice. He told me that if I didn’t poop today he would be giving me an enema! Thank goodness I pooped! Lol!! Sorry, probably TMI! Also, they give me about 10 pills per day! It’s quite intense but all worth it!! I’m definitely feeling better today! Phew!!

Jane Born Hi! Yeah, it’s amazing. Dr Accola said he was done with me in one hour and I was on the heart lung machine for only 45 minutes! Truly amazing. He said he only had to replace my Aortic valve nothing else so I was lucky with that. He had 2 other very complex cases and my husband overheard him telling the families the surgeries went very well too. Truly, Dr Accola is amazing and he really has the sweetest personality…extremely caring!!! He definitely treats you and your family like his family ! I am forever grateful for him!

Jane Born Good news on my small pneumothorax too. It shrunk! Yay! The pulmonologist took me off oxygen and said to keep walking around and do the incentive spirometer. I am definitely feeling pretty normal today. Just a little sore. Yay!! This journey has been tough but of course well worth it!! Cheers to all of us heart warriors.

Jane Born Me either. It’s really incredible. Dr Accola’s NP just took my heart wires out 2 1/2 hours ago. I had to keep still for 2 hours and 15 minutes. They said they are going to keep me overnight and take an xray in the morning and if all continues to look good discharge me tomorrow. Yay!! They are going to keep me on a heart medication for the pericarditis for the next 3 months. They have me taking quite a few meds including lasix. I definitely gained some significant water weight but it’s been coming off. Can’t believe I will probably be home tomorrow night. 🤗😅

Jane Born So my husband told me Dr Accola only took one hour for my surgery (45 minutes on the pump) then they left me open for awhile to make sure I was okay and not bleeding and someone else closed me. So total time was 2 1/2 hours. 👍
