About Me (In My Own Words)
I got a new heart for Christmas! Literally! I have a rare disease called Takayasu’s Arteritis. It is a inflammation of my large vessels. Mainly my aorta. 20 years ago they said I would need my valve replaced because of it breaking down from inflammation. So here I am! Got the call after my echo on my 50th Bday that it was severe and it was “time”. Flew across the states to Ohio during the pandemic before vaccinations. Flew home 12 days later.... a lot of story In between that 12 days. Cleveland clinic and Lars Svensson performed my surgery. Everything went well! Since I have chronic inflammation it was imperative to make sure I wasn’t in a flare any time before and after. Have a bovine valve. Say approx 6-10 years needs replaced. Possibly on the lower side of that because if the constant inflammation that my body is trying to fight breaks it down faster. Have the Inspirus that has been around for a couple years. Been following dr. Svensson for many years due to the fact he has worked with several Takayasu’s patients. 1 per 1 million per year it hits the “lucky” one. Guess I should if played the lottery more! 😊
