About Adam Pick...

Former Patient & Author Of The Patient's Guide To Heart Valve Surgery

As one of the leading analysts in his field, Adam Pick has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, CNN, BusinessWeek, Forbes and The Economist for his unique knowledge of electronics manufacturing. A native and current resident of Los Angeles, Adam earned a bachelors and graduate degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

On November 3, 2005, Adam learned that he would need double heart valve replacement surgery. Eight weeks later, Dr. Vaughn Starnes performed aortic and pulmonary valve replacements (via the Ross Procedure) on Adam at the University of Southern California Medical Center.

After a difficult recovery with many unexpected challenges, Adam is back to work, exercising five times per week and traveling the world for fun and business. Adam’s heart valve surgery success story was elevated on July 7, 2007 when he married Robyn Podell, his girlfriend of two years. Recently, Robyn and Adam celebrated the birth of their first child, Ethan.

As part of his experience with heart valve surgery, Adam learned the highs, the lows, the challenges, the opportunities and the frustrations of heart valve surgery. His book, The Patient's Guide To Heart Valve Surgery, is Adam’s personal attempt to support patients and caregivers through the entire heart valve surgery process - from diagnosis through recovery.

Praised for its personal overtones, The Patient's Guide To Heart Valve Surgery reads more like a memorable novel than a medical guide. Adam takes the reader into a positive, warm and honest space as he chronicles his own, inspirational heart valve surgery story.

As Dr. Gosta Pettersson, M.D, Ph.D., Heart Surgeon and Vice Chairman of The Cleveland Clinic Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Sugery, recently stated, "Adam’s book will help many patients and caregivers."

Now, Adam is creating several new, online applications to further help heart surgery patients around the world. In 2010, Adam will launch Heart Valve Journals, a social network designed to empower and enhance communications between patients and their caregivers (www.HeartValveJournals.com) during the heart valve surgery process.

Recently, Adam launched the Heart Valve Surgeon Database to help patients find and contact trusted, reputable heart valve surgeons. You can visit the new database by clicking www.HeartValveSurgeons.com.
