Alan Hilgenberg - Heart Surgeon, Boston, MassachusettsBlog Topics: Top Cardiothoracic Surgeon - Dr. Alan Hilgenberg, MD; Boston, Massachusetts; Heart Surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Hi there,

From February through April of this year, I ran an extensive survey to better understand the realities of heart valve surgery for patients and their caregivers.

Some of the questions posed to the 78 former, heart valve surgery patients were about their cardiothoracic surgeons. The responses to these questions were very interesting.

As I reviewed the survey results, a few select heart surgeons received high marks and comments from their heart valve surgery patients. One of those top cardiothoracic surgeons was Dr. Alan Hilgenberg, MD from Boston, Massachusetts.

Like most of the heart surgeon names that were discussed in this heart valve surgery survey, Dr. Alan Hilgenberg has a very interesting background. Dr. Alan Hilgenberg’s clinical interests include surgical treatment of thoracic aortic conditions and adult cardiac surgery including valve repair and replacement, and coronary artery bypass grafting.

Dr. Alan Hilgenberg has solid background having spent time at many leading academic centers including:

  • University of Michigan
  • Massachusetts General Hospital

Dr. Hilgenberg is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Alan Hilgenberg’s key research interests include composite aortic root replacement and
aortic arch surgery utilizing hypothermic circulatory arrest.

Recent publications from Dr. Alan Hilgenberg include “Results of aortic arch repair with hypothermic circulatory arrest and retro-grade cerebral perfusion.”
