PROACT Xa Research Study Tests On-X Mechanical Valve Replacement With No Warfarin

Great news! The PROACT Xa research study is now enrolling patients to determine the safety and effectiveness of the On-X mechanical heart valve replacement without the life-long use of warfarin (also known as Coumadin). In this video, Dr. Marc Gerdisch, the Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis, Indiana, explains this innovative clinical trial that has taken 20+ years of research and development. Dr. Gerdisch also reveals the science and the materials within the On-X mechanical valve (pyrolytic carbon) and the interesting ways this mechanical valve mimics several characteristics of a human aortic valve.
