"Dr. Markowitz is an incredible surgeon, doctor, and human being. I am fortunate to be in Cleveland, Ohio with many world class options for heart surgery. I interviewed a number of surgeons and Dr. Markowitz was the clear choice and University Hospital proved itself to be a notch above the other Cleveland options. I am just over 4 months from valve and aneurism surgery, and I could not be more pleased where I am today with my recovery. Dr. Markowitz was patient, helpful, and willing to respond to all of my (and my wife's) emails and texts. I will be forever grateful for his care and expertise."

"Alan Markowitz is a special individual. I spoke with and met with several surgeons in the Cleveland area and beyond prior to my surgery. As a physician myself, I also contacted the Quality Officers of University Hospitals of Cleveland and the Cleveland Clinic. The raw numbers helped in my decision, but meeting with and talking with Dr. Markowitz was the real proof. He visited me every day, answered all my emails, and has been a great support now 4 years after surgery. He was recently recognized as University Hospitals Physician of the Year and given their Lifetime Achievement Award. All deserving. He is humble, a perfectionist, and a wonderful family man. The CCF doctors never asked me about who I am or what I do. No goals were discussed and I felt very much a "number". Dr. Markowitz asked me all of the right questions and WE formed the surgery plan. I am blessed and thankful every day for our meeting. Living in Cleveland, everyone assumes you go to the Cleveland Clinic. I have done my research and am living proof of the results and care of Dr. Markowitz and his team at UHC. "

"Dr. Markowitz is THE surgeon to do this procedure. That's what I heard over and over and over again as I searched on my own. Because Cleveland Clinic pioneered some cardiac surgery years and years ago, people think it's the "only" place to go. I just want you to know that University Hospitals of Cleveland, Case Medical Center has treated me incredibly well, taken very good care of me, my heart and my family support people. He was available before, during and after to explain the procedure and answer all of my questions, regardless of how "out there" they seemed. to be.

I selected him, in the end, primarily because he also specializes in minimally invasive procedures and I thought that is what I wanted. If I needed to have that procedure he would have done so. I, however, needed the full sternotomy and I am 4 weeks out of surgery as I write this and walking 1.5 miles per day and just want Clevelanders to be aware that this brilliant thoracic surgeon is EXCELLENT!"

"Since the time I found out I needed aortic valve replacement, the only doctor people at University Hospital said they would have operate on a relative, was Dr. Alan Markowitz. After talking to him the first time, I could see why. He answered all the questions we had and in a manner that we could easily understand. He was very compassionate and I owe Dr. Markowitz a debt of gratitude. I was 61 years old at that time and had my aortic valve replaced with a porcine Medtronic Freestyle stentless valve (which only a limited number of hospitals can perform) and a triple by-pass. My recovery has been very successful and my post surgery meeting with Dr. Markowitz was again very professional and personal."

"Dr Markowitz was terrific. He was always willing to spend the time to answer any of my questions. My surgery went very well as did my recovery. I was 53 years old at that time and had my aortic valve replaced with a porcine Medtronic Freestyle stentless valve and my ascending aorta was also replaced with a Dacron tube. I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve and had never really had symptoms, but I was aware of my condition and was under the care of cardiologist, Dr Barry Effron, for more than 12 years. Dr Effron has also been great. I am eternally grateful to Dr Markowitz for both his skill and his bedside manner. He is a great man. I was back to work full time, and feeling very good, by week 7. "
