I just read your summary of the surgery and recovery period.... Just had to take note of, and voice my objection to, your characterization of ANY swimming in which you participate as ANYTHING OTHER than "light" in nature..... so, just a friendly thought as you enter the surgical arena - you know nothing other than light swimming (I'm talking about the distance, not the technique here - that's a whole different story) Good luck, Buddy!

Whoa. Hadn't heard anything in a while, and Jeff just gave me the heads up about this site.
Best of luck with the surgery. The best advice I can give from my own recent (suddenly piddly-looking!) health episode is to keep your sense of humor and stay positive. I don't think I really have to tell you that -- can't really imagine you losing your sense of humor over anything -- but it's kinda all I got. That and a whole bunch of cousin love from up north. Be strong and get better quick.

All of our thoughts are with you, Anne and the boys. Cheers to a successful surgery. 3 months out of the pool...ouch! Looking forward to when you get those chicken legs back into speedos (that might even get me back into the pool). You've been been a great friend and supportive of so many over the years. Now's the time to reap the benefits and make the most of your support network. We are all here for you and the family. Speedy recovery!!

Dear Steve,
You are a fighter--I have played much water polo with you, and this I know.
I hope you will recover at least as quickly as your timeline. I am trying to put myself in your shoes--I had Guillain-Barre Syndrome in 2006 (as an even younger man than you) and couldn't play water polo for 3 months as well. but i took it easy, and little by little, I regained my strength. Don't go too fast.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless you and them, and may all your positive energy help you here!
Sincerely...and Cheers!
Mike

Steve and family,
Ever since I found out about your up coming surgery you have been in my prayers nightly.
I have the greatest faith that you will sail through this and do just fine.
I just got back from a trip to Israel. Thought about how I met you and your parents there 21 years ago and how our families became good friends (thanks to water polo).
Borrowed Terri's album from that trip and took a trip down memory lane.
Again my love and prayers,

Hi Steve and Family,
The O'Brien's are on your side as always. We wish you a speedy recovery from surgery so that you can get back to your family.
You are an amazing person with the ability to do so much in this world and this is just another challenge for you that like all the others in your past you will overcome and conquer. It has been such a pleasure to know since the UCLA days and I look forward to having a few beers with you in the near future.
May God look over you during these challenging times and keep your family safe until your return.
Your friend,

Just heard the news. I will certainly be thinking of you and your beautiful family. As is evident by this site, you have a ton of people who are praying for you and behind you 100%. Add the Krikorian's to the list. You have always been a tough dude. This may be a bigger and different challenge but I know your attitude is stronger than anything. We haven't talked polo in a while. I always enjoy those conversations and look forward to having one soon!

Steve, and Anne, Conor, Max & Johnny:
Just today, I thought, "Wonder what's going on with Steven's Heart Thing? Haven't heard anything in a while." In related news, just today, I checked my spam folder for the first time in a couple of weeks.
Later, the story of my "right-sizing" of the entire spam-folder "team" to prevent any further Information Gaps going forward.
Speaking of going forward, as you roll along the Hallway of Heart Healing on the Guerney of Getting Your Game Back, there will come that moment that every surgical patient dreads. It'll start as a barely-there awareness in the small of your back, travel slowly yet unmistakably up your spine, then--as it reaches the back of your neck--will seem to surround you. Denounce it! Mock it! Spit in its general direction! For it's not an ill-wind you feel, just the Shivery Squall of your Snapless Surgical Sundress. You'll have a warm feeling knowing that Anne has your back! (Alternatively, the kids can grab hold of those little stringy-things that no one can ever tie, and hold them together as you roll the Red Carpet to the Operating Theater--an educational experience that'll give them the feeling of what it must be like to be a ground-crew-member bringing the Goodyear Airship Columbia in for a smooth tie-down on the pad in nearby Carson.)
Before you know it (because you'll be anesthetized), you'll be complaining about the hospital food; taking the TV remote control apart in a vain attempt to tune the hospital TV to something other than The Jewelry Channel; trying to convince yourself that the 97-year-old guy in the room next door *has* to fall alseep soon because nobody can scream at the top of his lungs 24/7--can they? You'll be able to do all these things because your upgraded, better than new *Heart 2.0* will be pumping strong. Plus, you'll have "funny" hospital "stories" to "share" with your "family" and "friends!"
Closed-circuit to Anne: I'm just a mile and a half west on Sunset, so if you or the boys need anything, just call. As always, I'm massively and tragically available.
Love

Steve,
It is never easy to undergo any medical procedure, particlarly one that involves any type of cutting or hospital stay, those gowns really are humbling. Please know that we are all here in any capacity to aid you and your family in the recovery process. Prayers will be said, fingers will be crossed and cheers will be raised when it is all said and done. You have a whole lot of broad shoulders to lean on and Anne will not be alone in that. Loyalty is a trait that I highly value and as our friends, you and Anne have it. Thank you for sharing this experience with everyone and allowing us all to be apart of your family. We will be pulling for you in the days and weeks to come and before you know it, you will be up on your feet. We got your back! Thanks again for the website and now you have your own group of stalkers. Try and get rid of us now. God bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand. Much love to you and Anne.

Hi Steve, I had surgery Jan 7th in Cleveland and was back home in Arizona on Jan 12th. The advantage of being youger and healthy is the healing time. The body just seems to bounce back pretty well.
You will do great. Just don't push too hard post op. I must say the fatigue is huge and I think it has to do with the anemia from loss of blood during surgery.
