Hi Judy, I've heard Dr Trento is the BEST! I'm glad you chose Cedars. How many days will you be there? Patient care and satisfaction are high priorities at Cedars. If you're not satisfied, let us know! I'm proud to work there. If you need anything, just give me a call. My extension is 34750. Pat Emery
On February 19, 2011...
Hi Judy, Just remember that Trento did my dad's valve replacement (I think that is what he had, he also has a pacemaker) but I am sure about Trento because my dad mentioned his name. My dad is pretty finiky as am I about doctors and I think you have the best up there at Cedars. Glad you are not going out of state for this, remember you are only a couple of hundred miles from Ric and Rina not thousands plus your friends are nearby too. You are so lucky to have so many friends!
Try not to think about the surgery, you will be knocked out and won't feel a thing..until you wake up, but feeling something when you wake up is a good thing!
Good luck and I look forward to your updates. Karen Hight the one who sent you the pix of you hugging Ric in HB and her tounge is out and also took the pix of you and Spike at the SD Pet Expo

Judy, my family's prayers are with you. I had open heart surgery 20 yrs ago & I understand your anxiety about having your chest cracked open. After a day of morphine (which made me sick), there wasn't pain so much as discomfort. Hint: hug a pillow when you cough! I don't know how they do it these days, but you may want to ask how they'll reattach your breast bone. They used metal in mine & now I 'beep' when I go thru airport security. No matter the weather, I always wear a shirt that shows my scar. By the way, welcome to the 'zipper' club. Again, all our prayers & best wishes are flooding your way. From Jeanne, Lee, Jonathan Taylor & our companions Rascal, Shadow & Peepers.

We are all pulling for you to have a safe, successful surgery and speedy recovery as well.
We are sending you our biggest and warmest hugs!

Hoping that everything goes well and you have so much energy, and the healing is quick. Judging by all you do now, you will be superwoman after. Please do all the doctors want you to, or I will have to send Rogue out there. She's very good at making you do, what you're supposed to. When she's not chasing something. OK, bad idea. Please take care of yourself. Rina and Ricochet are good medicine.

Judy, Anxiety can paralyze people; I am praying about this and hope you will allow your doctor to prescribe some meds for this so that as you go into the surgery you will be calm and thinking clearly. This problem with your heart is no surprise the LORD. Praying that you will feel His presence in your life right now. Mary Roberts Canton OH

Hi Judy,
God is keeping you under his kind and loving care, please don't worry! My dad is 78 and he had triple bypass surgery two years ago and he is fine! If he can do this Judy at his age, you can too and how can you loose with all these people and friends praying for you? Things happen for a reason and only God has the answer to that,
So, when you are lying in bed and can't sleep, think of my Dad and how he pulled through at his age and then give Ricochet and Rina a big hug! Pets are wonderful for calming you down when you are feeling anxious.
You are a beautiful person and your animals are just as beautiful, God needs all of you here to help out those in need. If anything, you will become a much stronger person out of all of this!
Charlie and I are rooting for you!
LOVING YOU FROM ONTARIO, CANADA

Judy,
I can only imagine what you are going through. I am so sorry. People can tell you that this kind of surgery happens all the time, but this is the first time it is happening to you. Take deep breath's. Try and stay as calm as possible, and let your doctor know if the anxiety is wearing you down. There is medicine for that. Know that I think about you daily. You are in my prayers.

Judy, I think perhaps you're needing new "heart parts" because you give from yours so often and so freely! You've just plum wore it out in some spots. :) Riley and I KNOW that all this is happening for some cosmic reason we're not privy to, but we also know that you're going to come out of this even stronger and healthier than ever. And you'll have new heart parts to last a VERY long time ... think of all the love and help you'll be able to continue giving!! We absolutely adore you, Rico, and Rina ... you've been an inspiration to this cancer survivor and I love having you in my world! XOXOXOXOXOXO

Judy, you have been in my prayers for weeks, since you first discovered your heart problem and I will continue to pray for your quick and uneventful recovery. Now another "glitch" but don't let that throw you. It's better to get it all taken care of at once, rather than having to go back for more surgery later. Are there family or very close friends who can and will be with you during your pre-op, and following surgery and recuperation? I certainly hope so because you need the support of those you love. I wish you only the very best, as you know, and my prayers and those of my church (St. David's Episcopal, Cullowhee, NC) are with you now and until you are fully recovered. May God surround you with peace, serenity, and healing. Blessings, Nancie Wilson

Judy,
I had a mitral valve repair with a median sternotomy four weeks ago (1/18/11) at Mass General Hospital in Boston. Going into the OR I didn't know if the surgeon would be able to do a repair or have to do a replacement. I had elected a bioprosthetic valve in that case. Turns out he could do the repair, though I knew I'd be having a sternotomy either way.
Most of the pain and discomfort following surgery was from that sternotomy. There's no getting around that it is a trauma for your body. However, it starts healing very quickly. The incision is very clean and it doesn't look like there will be much of a scar at all. While I have to be careful of doing upper-body work, I am feeling quite good. I am looking forward to getting back to my regular gym routine, swimming, etc. in the next couple of months.
I was also nervous when I first found out I'd need this surgery; that's entirely normal. Finally, I decided that I had faith in my surgeon, the hospital, and, most importantly, myself. I think you'll do just fine.
Best,
Jim Anker
(PS: I have a journal if you want to see more speciifics.)

Judy Fridono Thanks so much for sharing your experience. I'm going through the fear/anger stage right now! My biggest fear is the sternotomy. It just freaks me out to think about having my sternum cut. I see one more surgeon then need to make the decision of who to go with. Just want to get it over with, and get on the "other side"!!

I love your attitude towards Rici (and letting him go his own direction-and look at all the wonderful he does because you allowed him to do that!). Don't want to sound goopy--but we are sending you positive thoughts--you can do this, it is just another bump in life. I have no doubt you will come through with style and grace!

Judy,
I know it is so tough for you to keep hearing more things about your heart. However, you only want to do this once so you want them to get it right and have every bit of information they need. If they say you must have the replacement instead of a repair, this may save you ever having other surgeries. You are in my prayers daily.
