"I was diagnosed with Barlow's disease and required MVR due to severe regurgitation. I told my cardiologist I was not a fan of a sternotomy after witnessing my brother go through recovery for a MVR. He suggested Dr. Loulmet a pioneer in robotic MVR using the DaVinci system. After meeting with Dr. Loulmet and his staff I knew I found the right doctor for me. I was in and out of the hospital in 3 days with little to no discomfort. Dr. Loulmet's staff and all of the nursing staff in the cardiac recovery and step down units were exceptional. "I had robotic mitral valve repair performed by Dr. Didier Loulmet at NYU Langone in New York. I am thrilled that I chose this procedure and this surgeon. Dr. Loulmet, a pioneer in the field of robotic heart surgery, had a part in developing this minimally invasive procedure. He is kind, caring, and a great communicator. I was extubated while still in the operating room, so I didn't have the discomfort of waking up with a tube down my throat. I had surgery on Tuesday morning and was discharged from the hospital on Friday. I have five small incisions on my right side where the instruments were inserted between my ribs. I have no broken bones. I was able to sleep flat in my bed the first night I was home. I had moderate pain only at first. There was mild sensitivity at the incision sites for a while, but now, eight weeks after surgery, it's almost gone. My cardiologist examined me and confirmed that I got a good repair. Not only does robotic mitral valve repair provide for an easier recovery, but as Dr. Loulmet explained, it provides for a better repair--I saw, on a monitor, how detailed the surgeon's view is with the camera that is used. Amazing! This procedure is not right for everyone and I feel lucky that I was able to go this route to repair my mitral valve and I am grateful to have found Dr. Loulmet. "Dr. Loulmet provided outstanding care from my initial consult about six weeks before the surgery to the day a couple weeks after my release from the hospital when I came back in for an exam. He was entirely forthright about the procedures and projected reassurance without the arrogance one often sees in surgeons. My operation could not have gone better--I was out of the hospital three days after the surgery and restored to full strength pretty much within a month--and I give him a great deal of the credit. "
