Kathy Iam about to havemy 2ndopen heart surgery first one when I was 40, Iam now 68 and need a mitral valve repair. July 12 at CCF with Dr. Gillinov, knowing that I am at the best with one of the best doctors in this field is giving me less anxiety. Also, I am a person of faith and I have been looking to GOD's word to give me peace...and it has. Ihave also downloaded some excellent meditation tapes on the CCF site for pre surgery patients...and asking for prayers from friends and family. You will be in my prayers. I am having surgery July 12. Emilyrae Helfen
Back in 2011 on Aug 6th I had my aortic valve replaced at the Celveland Clinic by Dr.Gillinov, by the way he's a legend in the mitral valve world. I dealt with my anxiety by reminding myself all the time that it's 2010, 2010 thank god it's 2010. Well it's 2011 now and were very lucky to be living in these times. Thank god it's 2011.
Wow, you sound just like me. I thought I was very healthy, and then wham, told this year that I have severe mitral regurgitation and need surgery on May 5. I also have been told 80% chance of repairing it. I feel lucky that we have the robotic option here (Eugene Oregon).
Good luck on may 4, I am starting to get nervous and you probably are too.
I'm a 52 yr old male who had same diagnosis until December when I had a robotic valve repair. Although the surgery was a success in greatly reducing the leak it did not seal it completely, which, I understand is often the case. Mostly, all of the other symptoms I previously experienced went away and I feel great. Take one day at a time. The first few weeks following the surgery will be physically challenging but due to your age and work out history you will be just fine.
I am a 54 year old woman who had mitral repair surgery on 3/2/10. The repair was done under the right breast, and I had no complications. The surgery was performed at Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC. If you can read my journal...there are a lot of journals on here that deal with the mitral valve. Any specific questions feel free to ask.
It seems that you have done your reseach and are on top of things. Congratulations on getting your heart fixed in 6 days. Be as anxiety free as posible.
I am going to get mine fixed in 19 days on May 17th. I hope that you are prepared as much as possible.I am compiling my list of things I need and it is growing. Although all the stories are not exactly like mine, I gain so many informative things from each and every journal and guestbook that I have read. I understand your tiredness. Hopefully soon you will be on the mend and gain that vitality back that you so deserve. That's my attitude and attitude determines altitude. I look forward to being a fine vintaged wine. All the best to you.
