About Me (In My Own Words)
I am creating this journal for my father, who found out on May 25 that he had congestive heart failure, and needed open heart surgery ASAP. He had known for some time that it would ultimately come to an open heart surgery, as he was suffering from aortic stenosis and atrial fibrillation for some time before he reached this point. What pushed his condition over the edge was a tear in his mitral valve causing mitral regurgitation and ultimately heart failure. The news was particularly grim because not only did he need new valves, he also needed to have his left atrial appendage removed, a blood clot fixed, a bypass for an old blockage, and a muscle cauterization to get rid of his atrial fibrillation. The difficulty of the surgery made finding a surgeon who was willing to "risk his batting average" and take on his case. Thankfully Dr. Phillip Robinson at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, MI was confident enough in his ability, and my father came through surgery beautifully.
