Hello! My name is Dr. Travis Abicht and I am a cardiac surgeon having graduated from University of Kansas in 2005. I believe my greatest strength is the ability to function within a very specialized team. In recent years, the cardiac team has been emphasized. In addition to cardiac surgeons and cardiologists working hand-in-hand, we have assembled a tremendous team of nurse practitioners and physician assistants that all play a crucial role in obtaining the results that we have come to expect. My role within that team is two-fold: formulate the information at hand into a plan for care (from before the operation, to surgery, to the time you go home) and perform the operation.
The patient and his/her expectations are also a pivotal piece of the planning. Listening to the input of the health care professionals and the patient is central to having excellent outcomes.
I have had the luxury of training with arguably some of the best valve surgeons in the world. This training puts me in the unique position to be able to correct valvular heart disease with which many other surgeons may only have casual experience.
"Dr. Abicht showed great empathy and concern for me. The doctor stopped by my room every day I was in the hospital. He was involved with the other specialty teams helping to co-ordinate my treatment.
I feel my treatment from Dr. Abicht and the end results were very impressive. He inspired trust and confidence. His follow-through was excellent. I would comfortably recommend Dr. Abicht."
