Getting my "ducks in a row" with my will, power of attourney and Medical Directives in place should something happen after this procedure that we don't expect. All of the success stories I'm reading reinforce that I'm going down the right path. I was die for this anyway, but nothing like the potential of OHS to get you real focused on your priorities!

Ole Bore Ben - I did the exact same thing before my surgery. It's good to have it done!

Wiliam Height You are more at risk driving your car to work tomorrow. That being said, I made a video for my family, mostly my 6 month old son to know who I am and hear my voice in my words. As has been said by many, waiting prior is the hardest part and that was the hardest thing I ever did.

Duane Beeman Well, I AM an attorney and I just finished my directive. I said. "send my stomach to Milwaukee if they run out of beer, throw my socks in a cedar box (just get 'em out of here), Venus De Milo can have my arms, the dog can have my nose, sell my heart to the junk man and give my love to Rose".
I just got the call from the Hospital to schedule my TEE for 4/21. I have to go in for a "pre-op" exam the Friday before. It's starting to get more real. I've never had one of these before. Any feedback on what I might expect would be appreciated

Kimberly Biddick The TEE goes very quickly. Most people doze off and are awake not even realizing anything happened. The feedback I got from everyone was a unanimous "it's no big deal at all". Just make sure you get enough sedation to make you fall asleep... otherwise it is very, very unpleasant :) It is normal to have a sore throat a day or two after, which I had... but it was nothing a few popsicles couldn't fix. Good luck!! You will be on the "other side" of all of this before you know it!! Keep us posted!!

Tim Goff Mine was a non-event. No food for 12 hours, put to sleep, TEE done, cardioverted, then wake me up. Felt fine within a couple of hours, but had to hang in the hospital for another 2 days to shake the AFIB. Nothing to worry about!

Cheryl Batzing Ben, I'm a huge wimp and have had two TEE's....one before heart surgery and one while in the hospital for cardio conversion. What Kim said on all! Get drugs...they are good! Is quick. First one I was awake and aware but went fast. The second one I was "out" and woke up with everything over. You'll do fine.

Ben Hyman Hey Cheryl, I read your journal and we seem to be on similar trajectories. My MVP (now severe MR) was diagnosed at about the same time yours was. Please do keep in touch. I may be going through exactly what you experienced and can use a little guidance along the way

Well, I finally got my Story posted. I'm still waiting for Adam's book on Heart Valve Surgery and what to expect. I haven't scheduled the procedure yet as I'm still getting some preliminary consults and testing done. I'll know more soon. I'm feeling both anxious and optimistic at the same time. I'm sure I'll be a "basket case" as the day of my procedure gets scheduled. Looking forward to interacting with others going through this.

Nancy D Actually Ben, for me the worst part was the testing and decision making and once it was all set, thankfully I didn't have long to wait for the surgery, and that was when I was less a basket case and more calm. Hope your journey is a smooth one. Hang in there, and ask any questions you need, you may get differing answers as no one journey is exactly the same. But, support is good, and information is power. Take good care
