I believe my greatest strength is thoracic aortic reconstruction and aortic valve repair.
I have developed several novel techniques for aortic valve repair in the context of aortic root disease. In particular, I have designed a new technique for repairing bicuspid aortic valves in combination with ascending aortic replacement.
I also have extensive experience in valve preservation, valve replacements and thoracic aortic reconstructions utilizing both open and minimally invasive surgical techniques. I am extremely thorough and meticulous in the care of my patients, and I take great pride in my ability to take on the most complex multi-valve and thoracic aortic problems.

"Due to my unconsciousness my family was forced to make decisions. I arrived at Shadyside Hospital on (by helicopter) on Saturday, December 17, 2017. Dr. Thomas Gleason was the surgeon who was in charge. My family told me Dr. Gleason had me put into a condition whereby I would become stabilized so the surgery could be performed. It worked and the surgery worked! I left Shadyside Hospital on the evening of December 25th and my daughter drove me home. I don't know if I have checked all of the procedures that were done, and I don't care!!!! Dr. Thomas Gleason held my heart in his hands and gave me back to my family so I could harass them for a few ,more years. What gifted surgeon !!!!!!! An Amazing man and a gifted surgeon!!!!"
