"I was blessed to live within 50 miles of the Mayo Clinic hospitals in Rochester Minnesota. With that came a hard decision to pick 1 surgeon from so many great options. After much research I went with Dr. John Stulak.

What a wonderful surgeon and what a wonderful person and personality I knew the minute I met him for the first time that my life was in great hands. He is very personable and compassionate and talks in terms you understand. His team was great as well. He was very knowledgeable and helpful on different valve replacements options and will tell you the pros and cons of each while being encouraging and supportive of your valve decisions.

I chose the On-X mechanical valve. He let me know ahead of time that there was a chance that the On-X might not fit size wise and wanted to know what my 2nd choice would be if needed. Dr. Stulak and team did a wonderful job replacing my Aortic valve with the On-X valve.

I did not have complications during my surgery or with my recovery. My recovery at home went very well as well as did my cardiac rehab. I was back to my normal activities within 6 months. Just had my latest echocardiogram done and everything is looking great 2 and half years after surgery. My adjustment to warfarin has gone good.

I highly recommend Dr. John Stulak. Great surgeon and even a better human being. Like he says in his introduction video he treats you like a member of his family and will do what’s best for you. Best of luck to those of you facing surgery. "

"Six months post-surgery for repair of my mitral and tricuspid valves, and I could not let this milestone pass without expressing my deep appreciation for Dr. Stulak’s skills as a surgeon. From the first moment of our consultation, his compassion and easy manner made a very scary diagnosis manageable.

When I met with my cardiologist today, he said the valves are working perfectly. Except for tweaking the pacemaker, I am recovering beautifully. I’ve been actively engaged in cardiac rehab three times a week; on the off days, I exercise and am continuing to build strength and stamina. Honestly, I’m something of an anomaly among the other rehab participants in my class; even though I’m the “new girl,” I feel like the equivalent of a teacher’s pet who assumes the role of the over-achiever. It’s a part I don’t mind playing, and I know that my success is due to Dr. Stulak’s expertise and to the exceptional care I received in his hands. Mayo’s reputation as an unparalleled facility springs from its people.

Dr. Stulak and the entire Mayo staff exemplify excellence, and I am eternally grateful."
