Hello! My name is Dr. Joel Corvera and I am a cardiac surgeon having graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1998. To date, I have performed approximately 3,500 cardiac surgeries, of which more than 1,700 involved heart valve procedures. Dr. Joel Corvera, heart surgeon, graduated from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1998.
After medical school, Dr. Corvera completed a General Surgery Residency in 2001 at Emory University School of Medicine. While at Emory, Dr. Corvera served in the Cardiothoracic Research Laboratory and completed a Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency in 2008. Next, Dr. Corvera completed a Fellowship in Complex Cardiac, Thoracic Aortic and Endovascular Surgery in 2009 at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Corvera joined Indiana University Health as a cardiovascular surgeon in 2009 and became a faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2015. He currently serves as Director of Thoracic Vascular and Aortic Surgery, Surgical Director of Structural Heart Therapies, Director of Cardiothoracic Surgery Simulation, and Co-Director of the IU Health Aortic Center.
Throughout his career, Dr. Corvera has received several awards including:
