1 Patient Review for
Dr. Haney

"I first met Dr Kevin Tayon in late December 2023 when I was experiencing a significant reduction in my exercise capacity. An echocardiogram showed that my aortic valve, which was previously replaced in November 2013, wasn't working well. Dr. Tayon introduced me to Dr. John Haney and his team, who counseled me on a recommended course of action.

For the past ten years, I have known that my aortic valve would need to be replaced again at some point, but I was hoping very much that TAVR would be a good option. Dr. Haney explained that based on my age, reoperative open heart surgery to replace my failing aortic valve would be my best option based on several factors. Though not my desired option, my wife and I agreed that the full open-heart surgery was our best choice, and we had full confidence in Dr. Haney and his team.

On January 29, Dr. Haney performed the surgery, and I spent the following three days in the ICU and the next four on the cardiac floor. My wife was periodically updated during the multi-hour procedure. After my surgery, Dr. Haney spoke with my wife to tell her how the surgery went, and the next day, he stopped in the ICU to check on me. While this type of surgery is never going to be easy, the team at Mayo Hospital did a far better job managing my pain when compared to my experience ten years prior.

I will start cardiac rehabilitation shortly and look forward to returning to my Peloton workouts. Who knows, I may be ready for the Gasparilla 8K in 2025. Thank you, Dr. Haney"
