Hello! My name is Dr. Aldo Rafael and I am a cardiac surgeon having graduated from San Fernando Medical School, National University of San Marcos (Lima, Peru) in 2000. To date, I have performed approximately 1,500 cardiac surgeries, of which 500 involved heart valve procedures. Dr. Aldo Rafael, heart surgeon, graduated from San Fernando Medical School, National University of San Marcos (Lima, Peru) in 2000.
After medical school, Dr. Rafael completed a General Surgery Internship/Residency at Alberto Sabogal Sologuren National Hospital, National University of San Marcos, Lima, Peru in 2002. He then completed a Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Residency at Dos de Mayo National Hospital, National University of San Marcos, Lima, Peru in 2006 where he served as the Chief Resident. Dr. Rafael also completed an Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in 2012 and a Lung and Heart-Lung Transplantation Fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in 2013 where he served as Chief Fellow.
Dr. Rafael is board-certified in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery by the Peruvian Medical Council (certification maintained since 2008). He is also certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Today, at Baylor Scott & White, Dr. Rafael is a highly trained cardiac surgeon specializing in minimally invasive heart valve surgery and advanced surgical therapies for end-stage heart failure. He is a member of the medical team at the Hispanic Cardiovascular Institute at Baylor Scott & White Heart and Vascular Hospital – Dallas, where he combines advanced cardiac surgical expertise with a deep understanding of the unique needs of Hispanic patients.
