Today is National Heart Valve Disease Awareness Day!!!<\/p>\n<p>This is a special day to raise awareness to this under-diagnosed, under-treated, and deadly form of heart disease!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-34500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/heart-surgery-blog\/..\/Images\/heart-valve-day-2022-600X314.jpg\" alt=\"Heart Valve Day 2022\" width=\"600\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Why Raise Awareness to Heart Valve Disease?<\/h2>\n<p>In medical circles, heart valve disease is often referred to as \u201cinsidious\u201d and a \u201csilent killer\u201d.\u00a0 \u00a0For me, those descriptors alone are a call-to-action for more awareness to this debilitating disease that can cause symptoms (shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, palpitations, leg swelling), other cardiac conditions (atrial fibrillation, aneurysms), heart failure and death.<\/p>\n<p>Consider these facts about heart valve disease:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>30% of Americans over the age of 65 do not know what heart valve disease is.<\/li>\n<li>10% of people ages 75 and older have moderate to severe heart valve disease.<\/li>\n<li>25,000 people die each year from valvular disorders.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Any &#8220;Good News&#8221; About Heart Valve Disease?<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s not just \u201cgood news\u201d about valvular heart disease. Nope.
