{"id":131,"date":"2020-07-26T00:54:52","date_gmt":"2020-07-26T00:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/learning\/?page_id=131"},"modified":"2023-09-27T13:26:27","modified_gmt":"2023-09-27T13:26:27","slug":"david-foster","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/learning\/david-foster\/","title":{"rendered":"David Foster Reveals Heart Valve Diagnosis in Netflix Documentary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the past 40 years, I have enjoyed the music of David Foster.\u00a0 It\u2019s hard not to.\u00a0 The musician, composer, arranger and producer has worked with icon singers including Michael Jackson, Barbara Streisand, Madonna, Seal, Rod Stewart, Josh Grobin, Michael Buble and Whitney Houston.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/david-foster-heart-valve-patient.jpg\" alt=\"David Foster - Heart Valve Patient - Sitting on Piano\" width=\"600\" height=\"314\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During his career, Foster has racked up 16 Grammy Awards, sold millions of albums and had many #1 hits.<\/p>\n<p>So\u2026 When Robyn (my wife) mentioned there was a new Netflix documentary about David Foster\u2019s life, I knew what I\u2019d be doing later that night. \u00a0The documentary is called, \u201cOff The Record\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O46buPOI5KU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the documentary was amazing.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not a spoiler.\u00a0 So, I\u2019m not going to tell you all the interesting details of Foster\u2019s extraordinary life.<\/p>\n<p>However, I will share that Foster reveals in the documentary that he was diagnosed with severe heart valve disease.\u00a0 More specifically, Foster shares that he has (or had) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/bicuspid-aortic-valve-symptoms.php\">a bicuspid aortic valve<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So you know, I was also born with a bicuspid aortic valve which can be a serious heart valve disorder in which the aortic valve only has two leaflets, or flaps, that control blood flow through the heart.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/Images\/bicuspid-aortic-valve-comparison.jpg\" alt=\"Bicuspid Aortic Valve Comparison\" width=\"600\" height=\"269\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bicuspid aortic valves are the most common form of congenital heart defect impacting up to 2% of the population.\u00a0 Bicuspid aortic valves can cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/aortic-stenosis-valve-heart-narrowing.php\">aortic stenosis<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/aortic-valve-regurgitation-symptoms.php\">aortic regurgitation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/aortic-aneurysm.php\">aortic aneurysms<\/a>.\u00a0 If not treated, bicuspid aortic valves can cause shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, heart palpitations, an enlarged heart and death.<\/p>\n<p>I really appreciate that Foster, like many other public figures including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/mick-jagger.php\">Mick Jagger<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heart-valve-surgery.com\/arnold-schwarzenegger.php\">Arnold Schwarzenegger<\/a>, acknowledged his valvular defect openly in \u201cOff The Record\u201d. As we have learned together, heart valve disease is a fatal disorder that is often mis-diagnosed and significantly under-treated.
