Mom continues to walk in hall with therapy and the aides. She uses the walker-a cane puts too much pressure on one side of the body. IV continues. She is getting better-the catbird is doing her thing...Several more days here. Needs a lot off diversion so I've supplied word puzzle books, magazines, newspapers, et al. She has not needed pain meds today which is great 1 week post valves.Until later you can find me with Mom in the suite-Babs
Mom had a good night. She can have ice chips now. She requires insulin as needed. The IV (nutrition) is still infusing in her arm. She continues with therapy. Her spirits remain high. She appreciates your cards, visits, calls and prayers. Until I see her later today-Babs

Mom walked around the hall just a few minutes ago & did fine. She is off oxygen, still has 1 chest tube.Just got pain meds. Her spirits are good. She feels stronger. She can take short phone calls now-her voice is still weak and she gets a bit tired when talking. Lunch just arrived and she expects to nap sometimes this afternoon. Our "catbird" is getting better. I'll know she really feels fine when she starts to tell ME what I should do!!!
Mom moved to the 4th floor this afternoon. She walked with me in her room. She is on nasal oxygen. Her spirits are good. Still has 1 chest tube that causes discomfort.Good progress I think for 2 surgeries in the last 5 days. See you in AM-Babs
Mom is alert, on nasal oxygen and eating regular food. She has had several tubes removed from her body so I told her that is great news. They plan to move her to the stepdown unit later today. Still needs to rest. She appreciates all your prayers. Her Dr, Dr Dan assures me the team is very pleased with her progress considering the intensities of the 2 surgeries this past week. Until later-Babs and Kenny
Mom is off breathing machine only on oxygen and her heart is beating at 60 per minute. She looks wonderful. She will remain in CV ICU tonight and probably move to another floor on Sat. Pacemaker implanted to beat at 60 beats per minute. Did well during procedure but has to wear bipap breathing machine for a while. After all it takes us a little longer to metabolize anesthesia when we get older.Mom is alert and talking and thanks you all for her prayers and well wishes. Timeline to discharge sometime next week per Dr. "Awesome". Til later-
Left at 7AM for pacemaker insertion. Should take 2 to 4 hrs.Mom had a good night's rest. She feels much better. My advice to family staying at the hospital a sleep mask and earplugs especially on night of the heart surgery. MDs have been great-the staff wonderful and many of the CNAs I have actually taught so it is like a reunion for me. Until later-keep us in your prayers.

Surgery began at 8:51AM. Getting a new aortic & mitral valve for sure---Keep us in your thoughts and prayers as Dr Dan, Dr "Awesome" and Dr Chitwood perform these procedures. Kenny's sister in law Karen came to see us before the op-she is working another OR case today.
I will be having a cardiac cath in the next week. Have been thru this almost 12 years ago. My heart valve operation is scheduled for sometime in Dec. I will receive new porcine mitral and aortic valves as well as a band around my tricupsid valve. I have all faith in my surgeon, Dr Chitwood, who also performed the same surgery on me in March 2000.
