It is still very early in the morning. I haven't talked to anyone yet but I slept well and my heart rate is up InThe 70's from being extremely low on Friday that was my worst day. I thought the low heart rate was related to sleeping on my sides. Yesterday they said it had nothing to do with it. Last night I was on my sides as well as my back and didn't have issues. I assume being off the heart lowering meds brought the Heart rate back up to a normal level. I am thinking maybe Elsie and I might be able to go home today, if not today then tomorrow.
I feel much better today. I went7hrs between pain meds. Taking trauma doll for pain. Pain is about a 3 till I have to cough. Hoping to get a shower today but haven't discussed my game plan with anyone yet. I think my appetite is coming back but I haven't eaten yet. It is still early
I'm sure you have been waiting with bated breath for my next Journal entry. Now that I have your attention, I will tell you what happened. Last evening Bill and I went for a walk in the halls and may heart rate went down. B/P was good so they weren't real sure what caused it. I came back to bed and laid down. They had taken my tape off my chest so now I could turn on my chest. I noticed when in was on my side my heart rate went down but I'd get back on my back it was ok. That, was fine while I was still awake but after Bill left and I fell asleep things were different. The nurses came running in. I didn't know anything was wrong. I was on 2 meds to lower my heart rate and they were making my lightheaded and very dizzy. They ran lots of tests and will be monitoring me. They took me off the meds that lower my heart rate cuz they were making it too low. I feel much better now and if Elsie and I have no more fights I might get out on Sunday. Thanks for the prayers and concern.
I am making my own entry today.i have been out of bed 3x today in a chair and PT came and got me up walking in the hall today . Still haven't moved out of ICU yet. Trying to find a bed for me . They removed a chest tube and 1 IV site and the arterial line. They want me up inachair for all my meals. I am no longer in A Fib.
pS thanks for all the prayers
It is now 9:30pm. Jean is doing VERY well - though she says she feels like a truck has run over her chest.
The ICU staff may get Jean out of bed as soon as midnight or perhaps latest at 4am! They would put her in a reclining chair next to the bed. They fully intend for her to get out of ICU sometime tomorrow!
The ICU nursing staff and doctors have been giving Jean excellent care - constantly monitoring everything in ICU.
One of the nurses said that Dr. McCarthy does valve replacements in his sleep - sometimes even three per day.
Continued thanks to everyone for your support and thoughts and prayers - even those of you that do not even know the happy wonderful Jean yourself.!
I am in the ICU room with Jean. They took the breathing tube out and she is breathing on her own. She is surprisingly awake enough to respond to us. She is also out of Afib when they did the Maze procedure when replacing the mitral valve.
The nurses said that they may even try to get her up 14 hours from now at 4am - No laying around for this lady!
Today I heard from the Nurse Practioner. She said that she and my surgeon looked over my recent angiogram and he will replace my mitral valve but they will NOT need to do anything with the aortic valve. Also heard from our insurance co that surgery will be covered. Surgery is next Tuesday April 2. Won't know the time till April 1st.
It is the day after my angiogram. I am in no pain at all. I slept like a rock last night. I didn't do much of anything today. They said I should just take it easy today and that is what I did. Bill is taking good care of me and won't let me do anything.
After my last day of work, yesterday, we went to my niece and nephew's, Lori and Curt's and had corn beef and cabbage with my Mom and Caley and Maggie,my great nieces. There is always a party somewhere. Tomorrow, bright and early, I go to the hospital for the cardiac cath. Bill will be with me. I am very calm about thw whole thing.
I am having a cardiac cath on Monday March 18 at a suburban hospital. A few days ago I had to have a chest X-ray,EKG, and blood work done. It was funny because when they did the EKG, the tech went to get someone else to look at it because it was abnormal. They weren't saying anything other than it was abnormal and they would have to report it to my cardiologist. I said, What are you finding, AFIB? I had that since Oct. when I had my stroke. I have no residual effects from the stroke so I think they were pleased the AFIB was not anything new.
I have been a nurse for many years. I have decided to retire as of Sat March 16,2013 so after my surgery in April I can focus on healing. I have worked with some amazing women for many years and had 2 retirement parties. One was the 12th for the hospital and one on the 13 th on our unit with my coworkers and after work we went out to celebrate my retirement and March birthdays.
