Just looking over your page and glancing at your journal, story, and guest book. I see here that there is a video entitled: "Competitive Cyclist, Mike Gnatek, Recovers from Mitral Valve Surgery". I just couldn't help thinking: "Wow!! That could be Wade in a couple of weeks or so!!" Just think of the possibilities once you move past your recovery! :-)

Wade, Lynne, I, and our girls' families are all thinking of you, Natalie, and the girls. You are constantly in our prayers. FYI, I had the Ross Procedure done in 2005 by Dr. Vaughn Starnes at USC. I'm just getting back from the gym, where I road the bike for 30 minutes and lifted weights for another 30 minutes.

My point... I now feel great.

Natalie, we've never met, but if you've transformed Wade into such a great dad and husband, you and my wife could compare notes! Wade wasn't nearly as much of a geek as I was in those days at Weatherford, but I'm sure you've smoothed out some rough edges on the guy over the years! ;)
I hope you and Dawn (my wife) meet sometime when you are able to bring Wade and your girls up to Edmond. Like Wade, I'm outnumbered in my house and wouldn't have it any other way!
Although Wade is on that list of people I think of but rarely see, the memories of him as "part of the crowd" at Weatherford, along with W.O. & Gloria, Chris and Michael at church, are very special. Be sure to tell them all hello, as I'm sure you'll see or talk to them later this week, too!

Is the surgery still planned for next week, or has the schedule been changed?
In any case, you are definitely in my thoughts every day.
As I have discovered, things like this really cause us to look at the number of people who are there for us. The sheer number of them and the many ways they have blessed our lives (beginning with prayer) really drive home the fact that you will never be able to "pay it back"; we just spend the rest of our lives "passing it on"!

Hurray for the recliner, honey! :) Looks like it will be a great reading chair for me now and then, if you let me borrow it. :)

Hi Wade, I am Mark McWhorter. I have worked as a clinician in open heart surgery icu recovery for 30 years at the University of Alabama Hospital. Worked with world famous surgeons John Kirklin, Al Pacifico, James Kirklin, David McGiffin and others. While I do not know a great deal about the post operative period after the first week, I do know about that first week. You should do well.
If there are any questions that I might be able to answer ( or attempt to answer) do not hesitate to ask. Every institution has their own protocols and post operative care can be different. Yet the body was designed by God so that it still recovers :>)). It sounds like you did your research so you should feel comfortable with your decision.
As a side note, we have homeschooled for 30 years. We are members of the Logan Martin Church of Christ in Pell City, Alabama. I have made mission trips Europe, Central America, Ukraine, and Australia. We were administrators for 10 years of a cover school for homeschoolers in AL. We own Chula Vista Books which sells homeschool and religious materials. Teah does Bible School Teachers' Workshops all over the country.
