I am glad to hear that Wade's surgery went well. It sounds like his recovery is going well, too. It is so important to get the pain meds right so he can rest and heal well. You are both in my prayers.
I decided to try not to say anything funny this time, since it's going to hurt to laugh for a few days.
I just hope Natalie and the rest of the family was able to get some restful sleep.
You are all in my thoughts and prayers, and again, I hope Wade and I are able to introduce the families we have been blessed with since our times together "back in the old days".
Glad to hear the surgery went well. Now let me get this straight you are suppose to look like this Dr. Stewart when your done? Oh my bad, Lisa says it was your heart. I know some folks who need a heart if they have any spares let me know. Love you man. Later.
Glad you decided to let the Dr. off easily and were a model patient!
Just looking over your page and glancing at your journal, story, and guest book. I see here that there is a video entitled: "Competitive Cyclist, Mike Gnatek, Recovers from Mitral Valve Surgery". I just couldn't help thinking: "Wow!! That could be Wade in a couple of weeks or so!!" Just think of the possibilities once you move past your recovery! :-)
Yea!!!!!! Way to go, Wade! Soooo glad to hear the good news. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery. The downside is that, once recovered, you'll have no more excuses from those honey-do lists!
God is good!
Larry & Lynne
We're praying for all of you. This is really neat that you can keep "us" updated here. We had your grandad over for dinner last night and Ann is better too, so all is well here. I know all will be well there too!!
I just wanted to check in and let you know you're in my thoughts.
Tell W. O. & Gloria, Chris & Michael hello for me, and that I'm thinking of them, too! One experience that Wade and I share is that we had the easy part! It's the ones who are conscious and waiting for more news that have it rough!
...so don't be afraid to remind him of that after all this is over with. After he recovers, he owes you breakfast in bed, a night out on the town, a few evenings of watching those movies together that he doesn't particularly care for but are your favorites...Let's see...Have I left anything out?
Natalie, Dennis & I are praying for Wade and for your family. I know God put him with the right doctor and will guide the team as they "fix" him. It will be great for Wade to be back to 100% after this and soon he will be giving his testimony, just like the others posted in this journal. We love you and know God is in control!
Natalie and family - all of our family is praying for you guys. Trent already text me this morning to make sure I remembered that today was the big day :) God bless you all - we will be keeping checkt today how well our Wade is doing - we love you guys!
Wade, Lynne, I, and our girls' families are all thinking of you, Natalie, and the girls. You are constantly in our prayers. And, at my school, there are 4 of us high school counselors, our secretary, and registrar who meet voluntarily every morning before school for prayer to start our day, and you are included in their prayers. Plus, several members of our faculty, including my superintendent, are members of the church of are praying for you. Several from our church, and especially the Wednesday night class that I teach, are praying. We all know that God will be guiding your surgeon's hands and that all will go well. We look forward to hearing of your recovery. I'm sorry I can't be with the family Friday, but I will be praying throughout the day. We love you and God bless.
Larry & Lynne
I am so thankful that you have faith in God and your doctors, plus the love of your wonderful family and friends to get you through this. And I say "through this" with full confidence that you WILL make it through this, Wade.
Just want you to know how surprised we were to hear about the heart valve. You are in our thoughts and prayers, as well as your family. We will be anxious to know how everything goes. May the Lord bless you and your family.
We love you guys.
Natalie, we've never met, but if you've transformed Wade into such a great dad and husband, you and my wife could compare notes! Wade wasn't nearly as much of a geek as I was in those days at Weatherford, but I'm sure you've smoothed out some rough edges on the guy over the years! ;)
I hope you and Dawn (my wife) meet sometime when you are able to bring Wade and your girls up to Edmond. Like Wade, I'm outnumbered in my house and wouldn't have it any other way!
Although Wade is on that list of people I think of but rarely see, the memories of him as "part of the crowd" at Weatherford, along with W.O. & Gloria, Chris and Michael at church, are very special. Be sure to tell them all hello, as I'm sure you'll see or talk to them later this week, too!
Take care, and remember, it's not just the people you know who are praying for Wade--and it's not just Wade, but you and the girls, too, who are being held up in prayer this week.
Dear Wade, you are being lifted up to God in my prayers for a very successful surgery and recovery. After surgery and recuperation, if you would like to get rid of the recliner, I'll take it. May God also watch over Natalie, Allison, & Emily, is my prayer. Love to all of you.
Hurry up now, you hear, and get this little thing out of the way... we need you to teach in the Mission Learning Center.
We're praying for you and yours all through this week.
In Him, Don and Sylvia Petty
It's me again--Sharp in name only this Monday morning!
Let me know sometime when you'll be in Edmond! I'd love for my wife and daughters to meet some more of those people I knew before they came along!
Maybe our wives will compare notes on how to deal with us old men!
"Who is this?"
OOPS! It was me!
...just checkin' in again to see if there are any updates!
This time I'll sign!
P. S. You and your family are in my thoughts each day!
Sorry for the lack of humor this time around. It's still early in the morning. ;)
Wade you don't know me - I'm just a fellow Believer and also awaiting mitral valve repair at CCF August 14. You will be in my prayers - you certainly sound like you are where you should be - staying in His Word keeps me calm - GOD Bless
Emilyrae (keep us posted)
Is the surgery still planned for next week, or has the schedule been changed?
In any case, you are definitely in my thoughts every day.
As I have discovered, things like this really cause us to look at the number of people who are there for us. The sheer number of them and the many ways they have blessed our lives (beginning with prayer) really drive home the fact that you will never be able to "pay it back"; we just spend the rest of our lives "passing it on"!
Russell Sharp told me about your upcoming surgery. I'll be praying for you and the surgeons. Do you remember me from SWOSU? I was there from 1982-1986, dated Chris some during that time. I now live in Norman after living all over the world and go to church with Don & Scott Wilson and Sharon (Perkins) Sipe! I'll be praying for you!

Hi Wade, I am Mark McWhorter. I have worked as a clinician in open heart surgery icu recovery for 30 years at the University of Alabama Hospital. Worked with world famous surgeons John Kirklin, Al Pacifico, James Kirklin, David McGiffin and others. While I do not know a great deal about the post operative period after the first week, I do know about that first week. You should do well.
If there are any questions that I might be able to answer ( or attempt to answer) do not hesitate to ask. Every institution has their own protocols and post operative care can be different. Yet the body was designed by God so that it still recovers :>)). It sounds like you did your research so you should feel comfortable with your decision.
As a side note, we have homeschooled for 30 years. We are members of the Logan Martin Church of Christ in Pell City, Alabama. I have made mission trips Europe, Central America, Ukraine, and Australia. We were administrators for 10 years of a cover school for homeschoolers in AL. We own Chula Vista Books which sells homeschool and religious materials. Teah does Bible School Teachers' Workshops all over the country.
