Hallelujah!!! Gary, have been resetting this page until the physical therapy people came -- and that, of course, was the time of LIFT OFF!!!
Bless you, dear man, for keeping us in tune! Prayers continue and I just sent an update (second of the day after please pray the surgery starts soon TODAY!) to the church! So Terrie has masses of people she does not know lifting her up in prayer along with the rest of us!
You, Gary, are the Man of the Day and as need be of the Night. We will continue to lift up Terrie and everything having to do with her successful surgery in prayer until you let us know it is time to change to prayers of Thanksgiving and Healing.
Please, Gary, Terrie is not there to tell you so please let the person at the desk know you are getting something to eat. You may want to leave your cell phone number with them if they are equipped for that sort of thing.
We can't have Terrie find that you were left to starve while she is sleeping and slipping into a beautiful new aortic heart valve!
Big hugs and thanks for being there! If there is more we can do besides spread the word to continue prayer, please don't hesitate!
Again, major hugs. So thankful because this just had to be the day!

Hi, again. I forgot to mention that I, too, was bumped a bit with the surgery. Originally scheduled for a 7am surgery, which meant being at the hospital at 5am (!!), I was called the night before and told to come (at a more reasonable time) of 9am for an 11am surgery. Then, the morning of the surgery, I was called again and asked if I could come a bit early as the surgeon was on a roll and was wrapping up the emergency sooner than expected. Since I live all of 10 mins. from the hospital, this was do-able. I am so glad you're in a hotel room, to the "hurry up and wait" period. Sorry to have you go through this, with prolonged fasting, but you will make it! Love to you both.

I hope the emergency gets taken care of and they move you up for surgery soon. Terrie and Gary,
I count more than 15 from the Heart Family alone who have signed in to remind you that you are being prayed for and are loved - Even Mimi Zipper Himself (AKA TCP). Top notch, those prayers are flying and you haven't even gotten an IV in yet. May these acts of love continue to lift both of you up all of this day and in the healing days to come.
**********************************************
Almighty One, We pray You use all of Your Power for our beloved Terrie today. Please guide the mind and hands of her surgeon and her surgical and care team. If it be Your Will, we would LOVE to have another MINI added to the Family, as we also ask you to bless Gary, who is with our Terrie today, taking time away from work for the one he loves.
We know, Lord, that You are aware of the tremendous time Terrie has put into our Heart Family, loving so many, helping so many, and keeping up with surgical schedules and who has not been heard from recently like the Ring Master. But we realize this is in no way a Circus today, and we ask You for the peace and calm and smooth waters that Terrie has expressed the desire to have surround her during this time.
Please envelop her with Your Angels and hold and comfort her every step of this day and the days to come so she may continue to Glorify You as she ministers to this Incredible Heart Family.
We ask these things knowing You are the Great Physician and Healer and wanting the very best for someone who has so much love in her heart that she continues to share and encourage and give to this community every single day.
We are grateful to You for hearing our prayers and granting our humble requests.
And please keep Gary company and let Him feel Your strength and Presence throughout this day until he and Terrie are reunited.
Amen.

Terrie and Gary,
You have come such a long way and perservered through one road block after another with dental and medical issues that may have put a delay in the works for anyone without your strength and motivation.
One of the best things that has happened to me in this entire Heart Valve Journey has been to meet and grow to love people who are part of this Heart Family. It is a gift that defies definition in mere words.
Know how deeply I love you and how strong the feeling is in my heart and soul that this is a smooth sail (or kayak ride) on lovely waters with eagles circling overhead to join the angels and all the prayers we are praying to the Almighty and Infallible One on your behalf.
I hoped to catch you by phone before you headed out, but guess that message will be a welcome home message instead. If the spirit moves you, I would love to talk to you tonight, but also understand one's need to focus and unite all of one's energy. PT is coming at 4 PM CDT, but otherwise I expect to be centered and focused on prayers for you.
I pray with a deep gratitude for all the Lord has already done in so many lives - too innumberable to name but including Susan, Lynn, Collette, Julia, Tony, Mia, Eleanor, M, Steven, Geri, Rebecca, Karen, Kerry, Olga, among others. Now it is your time. I know that God is gracious and will not take from me now someone I have come to love as much as I love you.
So again I remind you that my heart will be beating right along with yours and will take over for the time in your surgery when yours has stopped for replacement of your valve, knowing that it is so great to have another there with you to cheer you on and encourage you when it is time for yours to start beating again.
As an identical twin, I am probably much more familiar with having a heart beating alongside mine, as I have never been without it. And so it will be tomorrow and I pray God allows me to be with you in heart and spirit.
Every possible prayer and blessing as you, a very strong and capable woman if I have ever known one, come through this as smoothly as ice. (Or ice cream!)
Bless you my Dear Sister, and Gary and I will maintain the vigil along with so many others here who have come to love you, who have benefited from your wisdom and wit, your honesty and integrity, and your soul full of love.
Talk to you very soon, with total delight!
Always, Your Sister,

One more day and you will be in the spotlight, but you are already a star in our midst, with your writing and insight. I hope Gary has someone to sit with him, for the really hard part I believe is for our loved ones waiting to hear the progress of our surgery. I thought little Erica would be alone, but my brother and sister in law came up from FL to be with her, as did my best friend Annie and her husband, who took off work that Monday to be with Erica, staying all day, until I was awake in the ICU. Let Gary know that we will be thinking of him as well, and wishing him strength, and patience, and hope. He will be so relieved to get the call from the OR nurse, or whoever does it at Kaiser, telling him that you're off bypass, all went well, surgeon will be shortly to brief him. Erica tells me that was the best phone call ever!
I feel sorry for poor little Hunter, he is going to wonder what in the world happened to his mom and pop. Our Lucy was hardly ever alone, with my brother and sister in law, nephew and daughter all in residence at my home, but they were constantly taking turns coming and going, and I was MIA for 4 days, coming home on the fifth. Odd, it was almost like she knew something was different, and I had to go out of my way to pay attention to her without picking her up or letting her sit on me. I always imagined her thinking "First you left me, now you don't even like me!" And, of course, I imagined this in her dog voice that my family attributes to her. She is a white and cream colored Havanese, very cute with floppy ears and curled tail. Erica thinks her dog voice is that of a sophomore sorority girl, very high pitched and over excited. I imagine Hunter as having more of a Johnny Cash "Hello, Momma" kind of voice. What silliness, Terrie, when all I wanted to do was to wish you well and let you know that tomorrow and the next many days, you will have center stage, not at Kaiser, but in my thoughts. Love you!

I'm with Eleanor all the way on this one, which will surprise you not one bit! I am using some of the time I have set aside for prayer, and you're right, I can hear the flutter of their wings.
How amazing is this world that there is so much here we do not know and fail to understand. But it is certainly a comfort to know that the Almighty One had everything in control and if we only stop holding on so tightly He will hold us in complete comfort.
Prayers for your medical team and everyone you come into contact with, and special prayers for God's guidance of the surgeon in both mind and skill, giving you care as only He can.

Terrie Syvertsen Dear Sister Ginger. Haven't been in touch lately as I will get too emotional with you and needed to get things done and move forward without the weight of all that love!
I haven't in the past two years felt that I have been one to "hold on too tightly as I feel that holding on too tight to a life that has already been so very full and such a gift was necessary. Rather that I just be thankful for the experience of a sunrise out my kitchen window as I did this morning and I am just happy I am here to live another day.
I believe in a Power in this Universe so great that if it is meant that I, just one of the many inhabitants of this earth is meant to continue on that I will honor this and be forever grateful.
I will, as I have written to you before be
very conscious of waiting for the possibility of the soft fluttering of angel wings as I am scooted into surgery and know my imagination and ailing heart will both be very busy believing that I am truly in the hands of God and in the capable hands of my surgeon and his/my team!
I plan, yes, to celebrate with you in not to distant future. Take care of Gary for me! Love to you my Friend and Sister.

Thinking of you today and waiting for the 20th. I wrote a few "instructions" to Steven (Popeye) to keep him focused on the future and not so scared. The best thing is to plan what you will do when you come home. You can see what I wrote him, which is generic. I don't need to tell you any of this, for I know you're already got it covered. And, extra blessing, you will have Gary with you for the first two weeks, which are the most critical, and limiting. By the time he goes back to work, you will feel able to do most of what you usually do, and as Ginger wrote, your body will tell you when you cannot reach that pitcher on the top shelf, or cannot open that big jar of spaghetti sauce. I still struggle with picking up little Lucy, who's only 9 lbs. and I don't even try with Toby the cat, at 13. I know my limits and their claws do not need to come even close to my chest! Not yet.
I think you will do great and will probably be a model patient. I told my daughter Erica your story of waking up in surgery, and she was scared to death! I made her read your posting, so she wouldn't think you were suffering, but she said be sure to tell the anesthesiologist, which you already have. For me, I just remember the anesthesiologist nurse, when I was saying goodbye to my daughter and my friend Annie, the nurse said "oh, you seem a little nervous" (you think?!@?) and my daughter says she put something into the drip and I was out like a light. I don't even remember the ride down the hall or the entrance to the OR, as Geri recalls, so I guess I am glad about that. Years and years ago, I was having an ovarian cyst removed laproscopically and I was way too awake in the OR. I told the surgeon, should I be so awake that I can read the label on the overhead light, and where it is made? He just nodded at the anesthesiologist and told me that now that he and I had seen each other, it was Ok for me to go to sleep, which of course I did. I wish for you the easiest possible surgery, and a speedy recovery. I will be there with you, cheering you on, whispering "come on, Terrie, you can do this". Before you know it, you will see Hunter going crazy with your homecoming. Love you!

Terrie Syvertsen Eleanor-Glad you and others are "looking out" for our Heart brother (Popeye). Good job! Yes it is great that my "Gary" and Hunter will be here to take care of me for the first two weeks home and after that my neighbor Tiffany will be around to continue to help me get Hunter in and out as well as Kat.
I am going to do my best to be a Model Patient as "Carole" my Sister-in-law is an ICU nurse up in Seattle and she spoke to me of the importance of being a good patient! I plan to do just that!
One fear only is that after working a job around 35 warehousemen I did pick up a few "choice" words for a time that might float to the surface should anyone hurt me! Being on drugs or not, I don't think the Image of a 65 year old Woman cussing like a trucker would go over to well in ICU!
But I will behave to the best of my ability. I already envision myself promising a date to the nurses with Gary if they will only slip me some ice cream!!!!!
Liked your "Ovarian adventure"! I am going to be thinking and have the thought of you beside me in large angel wings helping to push the gurney towards surgery saying in my ear "come on, Terrie, you can do this"
The image of Hunter with his waggle tail at homecoming will have me smiling!
Thank you so much for all the loving support and when I get out I am expecting to hear wonderful progress on your own recovery! Love, Terrie

Sister Terrie,
Love every time you post that you fill the page with helpful tidbits as well as giant gobs of information that often cannot easily be found elsewhere.
And nowhere else can I be sure I will find mixed with all of this information the compassion you showed in your writings today for Steve (Popeye), as well as the "Hand Her The Mic" stand up comic routine you build into each post.
All the way from the initial "something smells fishy" (or in this case stinky) skunk to the book that is better than the movie and what HIT while at EKG, you just keep us rolling in the aisles in laughter while filling us with information that we want to know, didn't know we wanted to know but now are glad we do, or pieces of "been there, done that, she's totally correct!"
You are one amazing woman and I continue to grow in my admiration for you, your wit, your ability to calm the rioting crowd and settle them down, or your uncanny way of making a very serious issue feel lighter and, as a result, easier to swallow and, yes, to digest. I do not know how Gary gets through dinner every night!
(Maybe the way he gets to work in those wee hours in the morning is by rewinding and laughing his head off to the monologue you presented at dinner last night! Gary? Oh Gary???)
Sis, love you so much and all the help and heart and personality that make up TERRIE! (Oh, Probably late but FedEx little something for when you need to keep your Laugh-O-Meter charged!)
In all out prayer, quivers full, with your well being as the target. Added two more people praying for you just this evening. (Stop by my house and you never know what you will be carrying out with you!!!)
Love you and am so proud of you, Sis, get in all the extra energy absorption you can as these next few days suddenly rip by at lightening speed and you find yourself back in quiet (well, it was till you came back home!) Manteca, land of rest and recuperation!
Hugs, prayers, and so much more,

Terrie Syvertsen Hello Mia. Long day today. Headed for bed and checked the "site" and thought I would write you a quick note of thanks for the support. I have some pretty wild colored "to the knee" P.J. bottoms that will fit loosely but keep the bottom covered! As for the top I guess the gowns are my fashion for the days while I transition from ICU to recovery and I have a pretty purple cotton robe to throw over as others have suggested. Not worried about A-fib as I am in good hands and sure the "Team will have me covered"
Take care and happy recovery!

Terrie Syvertsen Hello Mia. Thanks for the support. I appreciate your posts to "Popeye" and all of your encouragement as you know where he is coming from. I am sure that all of the posts he is receiving will help him "on his way". I did find out there is a "Patient Greeting Card" that can be delivered in hospital the days he is at that location as I believe they will be sent to his room. It would be great if anyone has time to get on the website:Peninsula regional medical center, Salisbury, Maryland and when it comes up look for "Patient Greeting Card" and fill it out for Steven A. Husted. The only thing we need to find out is his room #. It would be great for him to hear from us here on site as he won't have access to a computer possibley and having hand delivered cards from us would be nice. I am also going thru their community relations to see if I can find any organizations to follow up with him after his surgery as he will go to healthsouth rehab center next. Anyway, Mia it was kind of you to get involved with your heart brother and I am glad he has you as another Sister as It will boost his spirits. Everyone who has been supporting him are indeed "angels" in my eyes and I am proud and happy to know the lot of you out there in our community.
Pulling together for the good of the heart people is a wonderful thing.
I hope your progress continues MIa and I have Gary posting to you all so that you don't worry. If possible he will post photos(especially for the posts afterwards as I am sure you will all want a good laugh as Gary is good at catching me at my best! I Love this Man so much and feel really great knowing he is going to be there with me. That is why I am especially drawn to Popeye and want to see Him feel better about going in to Hospital.
So I know you and others will be on top of it as they have been from the beginning. Good Work Everyone. I am looking forward to hearing about the progress from Ginger, yourself, Eleanor, "M" Julia, Meredith, BOB O. Karen, Lynn and just about everyone who gets a second to write as Gary has promised to keep me updated in recovery!
I am off to buy a few last minute things for the hospital stay. Take care and don't wear yourself out with all the butterfly kisses and Eskimo hugs!

Hey sis,
Thanks for adopting Steve as your brother. I have an opening for a brother and sisters. First will you be my sis? So sorry to hear about your sister and nieces. Sometimes things happen.
I have one biological sister and one biological brother. I am the oldest. We lost both of our parents at a very young age.
We are v very close. I am so thankful for them.
They both were pretty upset with the whole surgery thing. But they were right
with me. I am so thankful for them.
.
I will continue to write Popeye and encourage him daily, especially as I know you will be recovering. I was not up to texting for a few days.
Hope you are able to take some time to smell the roses and to experience the beauty all around you.
My favorite color is purple. Although being a preschool teacher I love all the colors of the rainbow!
My hubby (Joe) and I have been married 39 years. We have two sons, Joey and Bradley. I love to swim, aqua fitness is my favorite exercise/ Biking, the ocean, scrapbooking, decorating andvridingh our goldwing motorcycle are just a few things I love.
I also have two bichon frise pups. One we had since she was eight weeks old(Mandy) the other little guy is Zeke, we rescued him. They are hour babies and are cuddlers. Its hard to keep them clean as they are white!

Eleanor posted a note for Terrie that says:
Thank you Terrie for writing so much information about your pre-op experience. I hope that will help those following in your footsteps. While each hospital and surgical team is different, the process is similar and hearing it described should help those wondering what this is all about. Your experience sounds familiar to mine, although in my case, the hospital has an off-site location where they do the testing and interviews, and we meet the actual surgical team on the morning of surgery, but the interview is with a member (nurse) of the surgical team.
I am glad all went well for you, and that you have peace and hope having seen where you will be, and who will be taking care of you. I am sure when you are on your way to the OR you will be going to sleep. I was asleep before I got there actually and I've described the breathing tube as a non-event actually, I do vaguely recall the ICU nurse talking about taking it out "together" "On 1, 2..." but I must have drifted off as I don't recall it at all, just a dry mouth and scratchy through afterwards, and the blessing of ice chips.
You will have some reading to do before the 20th, so that you have it straight what to do prior to surgery, and when you get back home.
We will all be there with you, don't worry.

Terrie Syvertsen Dear Brother Popeye(Steven)
You have touched my heart with yours.
I want to share something with you.
I have two living Brothers(my favorite Brother Eddie passed away at the age of 41 yrs. ago) I also have an older Sister and 2 nieces whom I love still deep in my heart to this day. Without going into unnecessary detail and honoring all concerned let me tell you that the pain of knowing that I don't matter now nor ever have to the Brothers leaves a deep hole within me. The same for my Sister and her daughters. They have gone their ways and I wish them no ill or harm only that somewhere inside if something does happen to me and they hear, that they know that I will carry the good times, the loving times with them with me always. The past is in the past.
My Point Steven is that I have an opening for a Brother and I aim to adopt you as my heart Brother.
You have asked the Lord to help you Steven. He is trying to in my opinion just as my prayers were given up to a higher source when I felt much as you do now. You have a whole Family of people reaching out to you from our community who have or are going through the same doubts and fears that you are. We all are taking turns laying awake at night with our thoughts, wondering our decisions and when it comes down to it sometimes everyone of us feels separate and alone. Steve in your my case I have Gary and a deep understanding that I have made and are making friends with the people on this site who have reached out to me like they reach out to you. Please go back and read your guestbook and journals and read between the lines where you have come through with love and great strength with the knowledge a lot of good people and their families are reaching out to you everyday and praying for your(us)every night. Most importantly. Are you not reading time after time how each of them/us is surviving the Surgeries and getting that new chance at a healthier Life????
I can't speak for everyone here in our heart community but I am of the opinion you have been "adopted" online by many and we want you to pull it together deep inside where your strength is to see that this surgery is your only chance at continuing on this earth! You are ill with an opportunity to have your illness healed Bro. Think of the people out in our world with illnesses that have come into their world where they don't have even a chance of being "healed" and you standing out here with Dr's who are ready to give you that chance. You are very fortunate to have this opportunity.
And if you pull it together and realize how much support you are being given you can find the support and comfort of not being as alone when you are out and recovered. Steven, I bet quite a few people feel as I do today too.
Once this is over you should feel much better and stronger given the time to eat right, exercise correctly and put yourself in a position(as I/we have) to continue to reach out for what you want right now.
You are doing the right thing but it will be much better for your heart if you will believe it yourself. If you tell yourself that all of the dark feelings will be in the past because you have a chance to make things better your heart will have less stress and the operation will have a much better chance of success.
Bring to the table the "MAN" you know is inside who wants the chance to live
many more years. A man who I'd like to know is going to take the risk willingly to join me and others here in recovery so that we can help each other gain back the lives this illness has robbed us off with it's symptoms and fears. I know you can do this Steven and it being close is a good thing. I am hoping all goes well and will be in surgery sometime this Wed. unless I get bumped by someone who needs my surgeon's healing powers.
And I would sure like to know going in that my Heart Brother Steven is going to be out here recovering with me!
You have to want to survive for this to work.........We all will be out here to continue your journey with you.
I will pat Hunter on the butt for you as he is now trying to make me take him outside! Have you ever thought that once you are healed you could get a rescue dog to keep you company and give all that love you have to? Maybe while you are out walking it for that exercise you are going to need daily, you run into someone special or make new friendships that will only make life better. I bet while in the hospital you will meet many people you can share stories with and they will have ideas on helpful ways to recover and meet new people in your area. For someone who has had terrier's in his life you know how feisty they are! Be like a terrier and get this done my friend. Please!
Will be thinking of you as I get ready for Wednesday! Love, Terrie, Gary and Hunter!

My dear Terrie,
I really love to read your writing. I feel like I am right there in the moment with you.
Sounds like you had a full day. My pre_-op was very similar.
Those gowns are so fashionable. When I was going to hospital I packed pajamas that were comfy. I only had them on five minutes and I got urine on them. Off with those and a new pair. Again same thing happened. Finally, I decided it was in !my best interest to stick with the gowns. The daysd past and I was able to wear my jammie bottoms.
Do you know your surgery time?
Well sis enjoy the weekend with your family. Eat a little extra as I had no appetite for about three to four days. No worries my appetite came back!
Terrie when you get a chance please tell me more about you! What is your favorite color? Etc.
Statements like these are about me! : I love chocolate, coffee and the color purple. I have two grown sons. One 34 and one 30. No grsndchildren yet.
I am married and have two bichon frise pups.
I love to swim, sew, water aerobics, bike ride, tour bon our goldwing motorcycle. Love to watch love stories.
