Happy Easter to you! I hope you have a wonderful day! Great re: cardiac rehab. I encourage you to ask everyone you can about a lower co-pay - there may be a solution for you that is affordable. It is that important, IMHO.I am now exercising 5-6 days per week for 45-60 minutes. 30 minutes of each day is running. I am working on conditioning the heart.
Rehab is done on Thursday so we move to the next optional phase- weekly yoga and focused training for two months at the hospital fitness center. I need to address upper body and core strength now to bring everything back. Have a wonderful week, my good friend.

Hi Again Susan, forget that hope again at the end of my message to you. I didn't catch that as I was finishing up. I wish you could edit messages to people here after you submit them. I checked and you can't. So ignore that at the very end. It was a mistake.

Marie posted a note for Susan that says:
Hi Susan,
So glad to read your last reports on how things are coming together for you. I meant to say hello a few nights ago but started working on my story first that I have been editing to finish here and there. I always get caught up in it when I start writing. Then after working on it for almost 2 hours, my hand somehow hit the left side Patients Guide thing and went to that page. It's not the first time I've done that after writing things here.
It's so frustrating because if you don't submit your edit every so often to save what your writing and hit this Patient thing by accident you can't get whatever your writing here back. Even a guestbook thing. I wish you could just hit a back button and get it back but you can't unless you save it every so often as you write.
So anyway, I haven't forgot you I just had to take a break from the getting on my laptop every night before bed and writing for a while. Had a couple routine doctors appointments myself over the last 2 weeks which is good to get out of the way in the Spring. Saw my OA doctor yesterday. He's good and listens to me and gave me a new script for my pain so I will have have enough as needed.
Ran into a problem renewing the one I had with less. Unknowingly came up short for 5 days with 1 pill left this month and couldn't get pick it up for 5 days for insurance reasons. But I got by with my older other script I had renewed for night time if needed or emergencies like this one.
He also referred me to get an x-ray of my spine when I told him about the pain I have there everyday that sometimes with the OA pain in th mornings just get to me a bit. I just want to really know what's causing the spine pain there so then I can figure out what I can do to hopefully get help for it but without surgery.
So I'm trying to get caught up on all my doctor visits and test. Got to get a bone density scan, those are fun, a mammogram and now a spinal x-ray and oh ya that wonderful blood test and last but not laest got a dental cleaning app. coming up. After that I'll be all caught up and hopefully done for the summer.
Presently we have hired a friend/painter and he came today to start the process of repainting our living and dining room, repair and paint ceilings, painting our woodwork white, and walls after and restaining the kickbacks and sides of the staircase. I haven't decided on the wall colors yet but I will.
So I came downstairs today after he had worked and left and he had primed the woodwork in the dinning and living room. What a difference after 26 years with the old stained woodword. It's just primer and I was so encouraged and happy to see the beginning of a nice change. So there's alot going on and I'm trying to take care of my self and not get to stressed over the house or having it perfect etc. before he and his future helper come in to work on the ceiling Friday. I will have Thursday do some more general cleaning and my husband is helping too cause he's not coming Thursday.
Then we/I have to leave the house for Friday casue of the smell of this ceiling paint and my heart health he told my husband. So we're going to a nice motel/hotel in town Thursday night to Saturday morning.
That will be a nice little break and relaxing to do. We actually had our 35th anniversary on March 3, this year and didn't really do anything specail cause it was so cold out. We went out to dinner a litter later that week so this can be our little anniversary get away.
Also, after all I went through, and the time it has taken me to slowly recover I haven't actually gone away anywhere over night just for a little get away even. So this will be nice even though it's in our town,it will be fun, a nice break. And when I come home my ceilings and woodwork will be done.
Well I hope you didn't mind me sharing all this stuff with you.Just though it would be nice to say I'm doing ok and good things are happening because of God's love, grace and blessings in my life. I'm excited about us updated our house.
We have done some things in the pass few years like our upstairs bathroom for one. But these rooms really need these changes and updates and I waited for this for a long time. We're also will be putting in new floors when the painting and staining is complete. Sometimes even small changes of our everyday lives of something we desire or need in our surrounding enviorments, can help us to get a little spark of life back in our spirit that we kind of loose for a time. It's due to what we have been through for a time or during our road back to the living. I know that I for a time even at home kind of lost any excitement about life. It was more of just a day to day sleep, get up, make sure I eat, take vitamins and my protein drink, work not to get sick, watch tv, try to go to family things when I was stronger. Being thankful for what I came out of but also kind of just living day to day, and functioning better over time but not really excited or even looking forward to much of anything special. So, I also know it's not really about material things, it's a healing process with God's help and us seeking Him and talking to Him and giving our burdens to Him. Many times in the battle which is in the mind when I would just pray and sometimes cry God would hear me and then the bad feelings would be lifted.
I also listen to some good Gospel music and love to sing. When you start singing and worshiping God, His presence starts to fill your spirit. Then your mind set is changed and you aren't down anymore. We /I just sometimes don't do it enough when those feelings come over me. But things have gotten much better for me though I'm not perfect and still have my moments sometimes. God's has blessed me with many blessings in my life. Blessings that I can easily forget sometimes. But when I just think about them and start to be thankful, my negative thoughts will begin changing right then. And this is true for everyone, so I hope it helps you as you head towards your surgery date and your recovery as well and anyone reading this. I'll be praying for your victory through this. Hope your sleeping peacefully. God Bless You, My Friend. and hope

Susan Smith Linda, I do remember reading that there is a weight gain immediately after surgery (fluid weight or water weight) for most patients and I am sure to be one of those. I have kept a few bigger blouses and pants with that in mind. Yes, that 20 pounds is a bubble buster for sure. I invested in several soft tee tops with a build in shelf that is somewhat loose and has thin straps. I can always put a top on over keep some modesty. I will check out the surgical bra. My surgeon does the full sternomy (sp?) so my zipper will be like yours. Thanks for the info and reminder of things to come and how to handle it. Twenty pounds..... ouch!

Yes, the docs REALLY don't want you lifting things. I had a 5 pound restriction, which precluded me lifting either of our two West Highland Terriers. I actually asked a neighbor, who is 75 years old, to help me with my snow tires, carrying them from a shed into my car, and then back to the shed later that day. I felt like a 98 pound weakling, but he totally understood. My wife, Leslie, watched me closely to make sure I "behaved" with my weight restriction. Jeez, Susan, you had a busy day! I would have been tired after JC Penny's! So glad your surgeon visit went well. It is quite a milestone to select your surgeon and the day - let us know which day you select.
You are doing the right thing asking questions, keep that up.
Good luck this am with your co-resident furry friend. I hope all goes well. Thinking of you. Best.

Susan! Susan! Susan! It is all go now girlfriend! Just weeks away for your procedure! Your surgeon sounds very experienced and it is a good thing that you feel comfortable to be able to ask questions that are important to you! I don't wanna know about you picking the microwave up off the FLOOR!! Stop it! It is just the sort of thing I would do when no one else is available but puhllllllleze look after your darling self! I learnt how to stand from a seated position it is one of the excercises taught at Cardiac Rehab. It goes like this:-
1. Cross your arms in front of your chest and stand in front of a chair, bend down and slowly stick your bum right out this is a trick the Physio taught me, gently lower yourself down to seated position.
2. Rest then reverse the procedure!
I am attempting to manage this on lower and lower chairs, benches, and steps. I want to be able to get up off the floor with a bit of dignity and decorum so that I can return to my yoga class. After surgery you will prob be given a heart shaped cushion to hold in the cross arm position to enable you to get in and out of bed. See Jim Jones pics! Here in Aussie land we get no such gold class treatment - just a folded towel inside a hospital pillow case! LOL! You know I am happy for you and excited and nervous at the same time. This is the worst over now making that decision, I am sure you were guided and you can relax a little and leave it in God's hands. Bless you you are a strong woman and can so handle this!

Susan Smith Thanks for the tips on getting up and down with the arms. I just tried it and it worked (maybe a little rough, but I did it) I will keep practicing. You are full of wisdom and wit. I would never be able to get up off the floor. I would end up crawl in to a corner with embarrassment, but Gabi you can do it. You have goal and that the Yoga class that you obviously enjoy. Will keep you posted dear "heart" yes pun intended.

Hi Susan! I had the automatic compression wraps on my legs for the first 3 days in the hospital. I loved them, they were like gentle rhythmic hugs for my calves! (The nurses said a lot of people hate them though.) But I never wore the regular stockings.
I practiced standing up from a chair without using my arms. It took a few days to get used to it, but I could do it before I went in to surgery.
I had my PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) and ABG (Arterial Blood Gas test) and Carotid Ultrasound about 18 days before surgery. The PFT was blowing in to and out of different measuring apparatus. The ABG was a blood draw (my nurse took it near my inner elbow, but some do it closer to the wrist). The Carotid Ultrasound was the easiest - just like an echo of my neck.
Glad you're getting things together! I found myself "nesting" - making sure there were enough supplies in the house, there was enough easy food in the freezer, etc. I found it very helpful to make lists, because I was so scatterbrained.
Keeping you in my prayers, that your recovery is as easy as mine!

Susan Smith The automatic compression wraps you are talking about will do the job in the hospital, but I wear compress knee highs everyday, most of the day. When I was first dx with lymphedema I was going to the wound care facility 1 time a week and to the occupational therapy lady 3 times a week. I had developed an open wound on the back of my calf. They would debride it and bandage it. Then the therapist would do massages of the lymph system and then wrap my legs from the knees down to the toes. I had to wear men's slippers to work. This went on for 2 months and then I was measured for compression knee high stockings. I made a promise to myself, to never let my legs get that bad again and so far I have been able to maintain everything. Thanks for the descriptions of the PFT, ABG and the ultrasound of the Carotid Artery. I am now armed with knowledge and am ready. "Nesting" is a good description of what I am trying to do, but things keep breaking or falling apart. Hopefully now I can get serious about getting the house ready. I want to reorganize my linen closet and my closet among other things. Love my new microwave. It is a thing of beauty and a wonder to behold. It was worth the struggle to get it home and up and running. Meredith, thanks for all the good words and prayers. You are in my prayers as well.

Susan Smith Thanks Carol, you and others have certainly stepped forward to do just that. I am finding that it is one thing to encourage others, but when faced with the same situation it is not as easy to go through it. So the support is as vital as my Christian faith is. I will keep all posted and I am always open to any suggestions and advice. Inspiration comes from many sources and you are one of them.

Marie posted a note for Susan that says:
Hi Susan,
I know there is a lot of inner stress on you. First just because of weakness and tiredness a serious heart problem causes. Then dealing with having to do all these things leading up to your surgery yourself. So all these other things that are problems you have to deal with can add a lot of extra stress that you need to release.
Sometimes you may feel overwhelmed and start to cry. Don't be afraid to let it out because it is a way that we sometimes get a release from built up stress, When it's over you may fall asleep and wake up feeling so much better because the stress of it is gone.
I know because this happened to me many times but in my case it was many times after my surgery. It happened many times in Rehab.and at the most unexpected times on and off for about 10 months when I came home. I had help before my surgery cause I'm married and my doctors and hospitals were not far away. I was on a paid medical leave from my job also from Sept.until my surgery in late Oct. and have good insurance. So I wasn't under the stress of my job and preparing for surgery.
I'm glad you have your appointment coming up. Maybe you can just find a microwave on-line and have it delivered and set up for you and have them take your old one out if you explain your situation. Ask to talk to a manger if it will help.
About Frances your baby, lol maybe you can get a friend to take her to the vet. for you for her routine stuff. Then have your vet call you to verify that you give him permission to check her and then talk to him by phone if there any problems he needs your ok to take care of.
Well hope you don't mind that I wrote all this. I know, I think Gabi suggested getting someone to help you take out the old microwave. Anyway don't stress over this stuff but make your request known to God and I'm sure the answer will come. He knows what we have need of and He will answer before we ask. So ask it shall be given as the scriptures say. Your in my thoughts and prayers that it will all work out. Blessings to you.
P.S, I have a male cat almost 2 years old. His name is Rondo and he's my baby.lol.

He did the surgery. I was a little worried cause he looked young but was older than he looked. I was told he was the best and did many complicated surgeries. He explained everything to me before I could ask questions. Like he read my mind or something. Cause I had a complicated surgery I actually had two surgons, they were partners in the same office. I guess two is better than one until the bill comes lol. That was double to. But Dr Yum yum turned out to be my primary surgeon. I just saw him one time after surgery and he released me. I still see my cardiologist every 6 months. He likes to keep tabs on me. I like that makes me feel secure. Take care.

Susan, I love it that you are being so guided on the right path. It is all part of the process when you are not satisfied with a Dr's answers or they don't get back to you - just move on by. The very best surgeon (for you) will appear and you will get a good feeling. It sucks that you have to get a new microwave as if you don't have enough to work through and sort out. Maybe spend a few $'s on delivery fee? You are so worth it. Just leave the old one where it is and when friends offer to help AFTER your procedure - just smile and say 'Well there is something.......! Adding appropriate body language should clinch the deal, try in the mirror to 'do' pathetic and helpless, a few tears would really help if you can swing it! It will be hard because this is not the picture I have of you, and that is why you need to practise, and I am willing to be your coach! Get a genteel smile happening with some wild fluttering of the eyelids! if that fails you may consider a little blackmail or a one off bribe! Bring out the big guns and don't hold back! Will be waiting for your post after next Wednesday. Best of luck darling Susan.

Susan Smith Gabi, I love your techniques for getting the job done. I might have to resort to some of those suggestions. The pathetic and tears might just do the trick. The eye fluttering will only happen because I accidently stuck my finger in my eye. LOL . I did check out the deliver fees, but $80 is too much, so I am looking at friendly neighbors, etc.. I am a believer in God the Creator and so I do know down deep (where it counts) that all will be well. You take care as well and I will post the results of the Dr. visit next Wednesday. Australia is doing a great job with the search for the missing airplane. Hope they find something positive.
