As a recent CC alum, I am here to tell you it's not that bad! You have selected one of the best facilities in the world. The surgeons and staff are second to none! Just be sure to keep a positive outlook. Two weeks ago I was in CICU at Cleveland Clinic and tonight we are in our RV in Breckenridge CO. Had a full day of visiting a Farmer's Market, walking our dogs, going to a concert. I never dreamed it could be this good! AND no more anxiety over that stupid valve!

Hi Richard,
You are in the very best of hands. Dr Gillinov did my AVR on May 5 of this year at CC. I had jnown about my faulty valve all my life, so at 49 I had a lot more time to prepare myself for this mentally.
Trust me that it is not as bad as you think it is going to be. Because of a couple of other issues, I had to have a median sternotomy for my bovine replacement valve surgery. Even so my recovery was quick, and I was back at work six weeks after my surgery.
The CC is outstanding, the staff and doctors are incredible. Relax and be confident knowing you will be back home quickly, and a normal life soon thereafter.
Best wishes,
Mark

Richard: Hope all is well with you and your family. We had my daughter and granddaugher visiting for a week...they are going back today. I am sure you are getting ready for your surgery...all will turn out well. I am also getting ready to watch Nico play football this season. They are now getting ready with camps and workouts. It will be fun. Again, what is your surgery date. lco

Hey Uncle Bootsie !
What a cool way to find this out ! It sounds like you are starting off on the right foot with a positive attitude ! I was just talking to my Uncle Jim the other day about our movie nights in Des Plaines :)
Angelina had a sub aerotic membrane repair during her last surgery . I k now yours is much more detailed but You will be amazed at how skilled these Heart surgeons are and how quickly you will be back on your feet .
We will all have to catch up in person when you are all recovered !! As memory serves me , I made a visit to the Volpe home but it was too short so I will have to do a re-peat:) and hopefully we will get a Volpe family visit once you are feeling better too .I would love to show you central WI.
I will let you know when somebody good plays at our State Fair .
OH, yea , and "the guy I married" (inside joke ) Mick ,and the kids say hi Uncle Bootsie and we will all have you in our thoughts ! LOve ya & cya soon , Rebecca De Mornay and Family :) muah

Hello again Boots! That last entry was from me and I mean't to sign it, but I forgot! When you get past this "valve" event, please come & see how beautiful our family room came out thanks to you, Issac, & your brother!

Hello Boots! I had every intention of contacting you prior to Aug. 06, but I'll take this opportunity to let you know that I think about you and your upcoming surgery everyday! You're a pretty tough animal and I suspect that you'll be cracking jokes as soon as the anesthesia wears off! Did you hear about the guy who was so crooked, that when he died, they had to screw him in the ground! Hahaha, hehehe!

Richard, this is a terrific way to get the news. We will keep tabs on your progress. Jack and I and the family wish you a speedy recovery. I'll be emailing Joey or Stu also so we don't miss anything. You're a strong healthy guy so this surgery should be straight forward and uneventful.
The best to you
Love you, Judy and Jack
