My oh my. How stressful and frustrating and such a let down to find out the heart was not viable. So, so sorry. I often think there is a reason this particular heart was not for Rachel. What that reason is, we may not ever know. But we continue to pray and ask God to hold her in His Hands and keep her till that viable heart is ready.
Hope y'all get some rest.....including Rachel.

We all in the journal appreciate your updates on Rachel. I don't know her personally since I'm across the ocean but it seems to me her determination and courage will bring her through this transplant. And hopefully it will be soon. We are all saying many prayers for her and I know through experience that this works. I pray for peace for her in facing decisions, and strength to fight this nasty bug. You are an amazing supportive family. So many ups and downs. Love to sll.

I am courage by Latisha Barker
I am courage because I am afraid
But despite my fear I persevere
I am courage because I dream
But despite my doubts I try them out
I am courage because I stand
Despite my trembling legs and shaky hands
I am courage because I move forward
Despite my temptation to be afraid
I am courage because I step up and step out
Despite the fear inside me sprout
I am courage because I love
I put my trust in God above
I am courage because I believe
And I know that fear deceives
I am courage I am not fear
And in my soul fear no longer lives hear

Hello Dear Rachel, what a difference a few days make! I have been away over Christmas and the very first thing I did before unpacking was to check how you are going. OMG you have really had to make some serious decisions my darling girl. Thank God you have had such good advice from doctors whom you trust and must know very well by now. Here in Australia 30 years ago a little girl aged 14 made history for being the youngest to receive a heart transplant. She is still doing really well, takes her medication, eats well and exercises regularly. This is the very best option for you now Rachel and I am so proud of the way you have manned up and will grab the opportunity with both hands. Sending you and your wonderful family my love and prayers for you all.

How great to get your voice back in time to say, "Happy Christmas", and to be able to enjoy a bit of Christmas dinner (hospital food permitting!) From what Lawson tells me, getting on the "super-urgent" transplant list is also very good long-term news, despite it being another major intervention.
Happy Christmas to each, and may Christ be born anew in all of us, today and every day.

I had a mitral valve repair 5years ago, but still find this site valuable. More importantly, I am a psychologist with a client who had a heart transplant following the birth of her son 18 years ago. She has lived a very fulfilling life since then, even adopting a second child. She is a very active parent and works part time. She does not feel incapacitated in any way, and she views her medical needs as routine. She believes her transplant experience has made her a stronger person.
I hope this woman's story is helpful to you.

Please know that Rachel and all of her family and care takers are in our thoughts and prayers. We will both continue to quietly spy on Rachel's blog so we can keep up to date on her health. Merry Christmas Rach!
To be honest I don't really know what to write, I'm not the best at talking over scripture and prefer talking face to face but I wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas from Australia!
I really wish I was around the hospital today to give you hug and kiss on the cheek but I'm sure Lawson can do that for me!
The effort and love Rach has seen over the past few weeks has, I'm sure, been unpresidented. Not to mention the love, care, compassion and prayers from everyone else.
All my love as always and maybe Lawson can arrange a quick skype convo. (If you are allowed)
Thinking of you today and hope you stay positive as you can see all the progress that is being made!
Love,
Oliver

Glad to hear a little more good news. Four hours in a chair what an improvement, good going Rachel. Glad the lungs are doing better and keep that ole cough agoing. For a pillow a department store in the luggage or travel area should have some. Mine has those little foam beads that confirm to you. They are real comfortable. They look like a horse shoe. Just another thought I was wondering if she could eat baby food like fruit or pudding if that might help in staying down.
You all stay strong and rest for yourself.
