Thanks, Carl & Steven. Prayers and kind thoughts for all of you. So relieved that they stopped the bleeding and, yes, a blessing that Pixie won't have had to have been cognizant of what was going on.

Love to Pixie. Barbara

Thank God they got it before they took out the breathing tube. When she wakes up, she won't even know she was in twice.
Prayers for her and all of you who sit and wait.

Hi Pixie,

Thank you for keeping us updated. I will be holding you kind, strong thoughts and burn you some sweet grass and white sage tomorrow. We will miss you tonight at the FAR volunteer tea. By-the-way,you were one of the top 3 ranking contributors to the Anchorage Coastal Beluga Survey. It is so hard to pick top volunteers but when you came in right next to Bob Mitchell & Antonia Fowler I just had to put larger stars on your appreciation certificates. Thanks so much. If you ears are burning tonight, we are talking about you. ;-)

Hugs,
Barbara

Hi Pixie--It sounds like you have done your homework and assembled a great team. When Michael had to make a decision last fall about where to have his corneal transplants the specialist here told us that he had done just 11 of the procedures. It is not that we didn't trust him, he is doing Michael's follow-up visits. We asked him who he would have do the surgery if he had to have a corneal transplant and then went to the fellow that he named--in Portland. That physician trained him and by the time Michael had his 2nd transplant the Portland doc had done 1100 such surgeries if I remember correctly. It was the smart decision, just as yours is.

I still remember you telling me that you were feeling out of breath and worrying that something must be wrong because you are always in such good shape. I am so glad that you found out what it was and that you are getting it fixed!

Hugs,
Barbara Carlson

Dear Pixie,
Amazing to read you actually thought you were out of shape. You are in the best shape of anyone I know! That strength will come in handy just now. I will be following you closely - our thoughts are with you. Please let us know if you want anything at all - actually please think of something so we can feel like we helped!

Pixie:
I know exactly how you feel and had the same dilemma. Adam's book cannot possibly list all the wonderful surgeons there are in the country, so there were no listings for where I live either, and I live in the Orlando, FL area! Nevertheless, it turns out there are more than a dozen highly qualified surgeons here so I had the surgery done locally.
It is hard to think that you'll miss part of your lovely winter with your dogs, but look at it this way: Having this surgery will allow you to spend many more winters with them. And they can keep you company while you recuperate.
Today is the 3 month anniversary of my aortic valve surgery. I had a full sternotomy, yet I feel totally normal now and have resumed all my activities. You will also.
Wherever you decide to have the surgery done, choose with your heart for your heart. If you're comfortable with the doctor, you'll do well, but do choose soon and keep us all posted with your decision and your progress.
In the meantime, check Journal Central regularly and read the new postings. You'll be greatly encouraged, and you'll go forward knowing that you're doing the best thing.
In the meantime, Merry Christmas and the very best of luck to you.
