Thanks to Chris for his updates. It's comforting to hear the little tidbits of your recovery.

Wow, so fantastic that you're already posting yourself, Mark! We've been following everything very closely and are cheering for you the whole way!
Yesterday was sunny and pretended to be spring. Tricky. If today is any indicator, we're not quite at spring yet. But, many beautiful days to come. . .
Can't wait to visit you!
Go team, Lipson!!

Hey Mark! So good to hear from YOU. (Don't take that personally, Chris!) It's a fog-soup kind of day here today. Would've been nice to have some sun to help counter the dark morning, but the daffodils are happy.
Lots of love to you,

This is Kate midday on Monday.
Will you stop it with the arrhythmias (sp?) already!! Who ever decided how to spell that word should not be given control of any complex internal organ.
Heal Mark. No dilly-dallying around. People are depending on you. Your Lincecum boy was on the cover of the NYT Style magazine yesterday -- the world is getting stranger and stranger -- and it's a good thing he can throw because he'll never be a movie star. But I'll go see him throw with you next month if YOU'LL JUST GET ALL BETTER.
But don't feel any pressure, ok?

Hi Mark,
It's a misty, mizzly day here on the north coast. There was a glorious sunburst/majestic cloud scene over Molino at Sunrise. Thinking of you and thrilled to hear your already taking hikes down the hall. I'm imagining all those little nerve endings and cells regenerating, healing, making you strong again! Have a great day,
Erika P.

Losing an hour in New Orleans was something we definitely discussed...i'm never a big fan of the time change thing, but it hit hard here, and brought us some good chuckles:-) Discovered a great band last nite, Rue Fiya, at a venue we had never been to. Sending you healing, rocking New Orleans music through the vibe highway and listening to Nanci Griffith right now...."it sure feels good when you cross that line." Hope you cross that line out of the ICU when the time is right. Peace and love to you Mark, Misch and Timo

Stay strong, get stronger!

I'm glad you are slowly recovering. I'm in the thick of reviewing loan applications as folks are preparing for the up-coming season. Please open your arms, figuratively or literally, for a big hug.

Hi, Mark,
Thinking about you constantly. There's a lot of green here this morning in Gettysburg...and the barking geese continue to surprise me as I walk our dog.
It will soon be cherry blossom season in DC; Roberta and I plan to visit you right at the height of it.
Lots of love and blessings,

Spent an hour pruning my way to the top of the Black Oxford apple tree yesterday, an old Maine variety that dates to the 1790's. It's pretty amazing to be high in a tree you planted, which is what it must be like for you as you look back on the years on your farm, with OFRF, and building this great movement. Keep plugging--Opening Day is only a few weeks away! Russell

Hi Mark, I've been on a Dead listening spree all weekend. On the train to work I listened to the totally kick ass 19 minute version of Sugaree (Hartford 5/28/77), and sent positive waves your way the whole time. Be well, and I'll see you soon.

Oops, that was me, elated about the peepers, Valerie
On March 14, 2011...
Hi mark, the highlight of my week was hearing the peepers in the woods when I got home from work last Thursday. I got my husband and step-son to run outside without shoes because I was so elated to hear them. They are SO loud for such little guys! To me, they are among the clearest signs of spring that I look for every year, along with the yellow daffodils and croci (crocuses), the occasional bright red cardinal, singing birds again, and the sky full of honking geese. The forsythias are just around the corner. Hopefully, you have some sunshine coming into your room. I find that is a real lift.

Good morning, Mark, Ami here- just wanted to say hi now that I know that I can write in this guest book! I've been reading about your progress every day and sending as much healing energy your way as I can muster. I smiled when I heard you were asking for crossword puzzles; looking forward to playing Scrabble with you as soon as you are up to it.
It's just getting light outside and I'm listening to a robin singing it's head off outside; gives me hope that spring is really coming.
Sending lots of love and light your way, Ami

Hey Mark, I'm happy that Chris, Laurie and Roger are there with you. Nice family time! Joely's ocean adventures put her in a great mood. Good way to slide into the end of senior year. The highlight of my day so far has been that hour of sleep between 5 and 6 a.m., full of dreams. I look forward to seeing you in May or June around graduation time. Sending love and hugs from Ohio. So happy you're up and walking about a little and enjoying the hospital's fine dining! I must opt for salad and the occasional bowl of soup when i forget dinner at work...can't do the overcooked broccoli! You'll have to start looking forward to some things you want to eat when you get home and we'll make that happen :-) Highlight of my day was enjoying lunch with my family when Julia joined my sister, her s/o and me after we'd finished moving my CA goods across town to a new house! Just enjoying the sounds of a rainy night here in SC thinking of what I could plant in the back yard... Much to look forward to with that and anticipating much seeing you soon! Heal well... ----- Molly

Slippy and Chris,
Love getting the updates and knowing we are right there with you. Sorry to hear there were some hiccups today. You know that happens sometimes. Tomorrow will be a better day.
Tonight began the celebration of Dylan's birthday week. He will be 15 on the 15th so it's a big year. The Ides of March, every year. Soon to be driving. He's quite reflective right now and growing so fast. Into debate, music and his girlfriend. Not quite our little boy anymore. We call him the boy/man.
Keep on healing. Blessings and love.

Hello sweet man
Today in SC was beautiful in its springtime drizzle. The warmth and wetness were awakening the soil for planting.

Hey Mark,
Taking a break from working on an AFRI grant - in tandem with Jan (although she's sure handling the biggest part of the load) - albeit in our own abodes. Yesterday I worked 15 hours for the Soquel High Wrestling fundraiser. We served over 800 meals, and provided ice for about 30 injuries at the tournament. Then today I watched Polly's FB video post on the tsunami. Dang, between your ordeal and the events in the Pacific, I am holding on to the bright faces of those kids - our future - and your recovery - and Jan's tenacity with all she's holding - as inspiration. So much to do and what a big world, micro and macro. We need your big heart - and I'm so grateful you stopped in for a tune-up. Sending you blessings, keep on, keeping on!

Hi Mark,
Kelly Shea here. Want you to know that your name was on the lips of lots o' folks at Expo and great prayers and wishes winged over the continent from west to east. Mary Mulry shared word of your blog and folks were thrilled to know they could stay in touch with you. The OFRF luncheon was awesome (as usual) and the Organic Center gave an award to Urvashi Rangan, that was great to see. John Reganold got one too. The show was a crazy mosh pit like usual, except not usual because a couple of my fave guys weren't there!

This ia a 72 yr old granny who went through what you're going through but six months ago. ICU was the worst. When you get to your regular room, everything you're experiencing now will fade fast from
memory. Then in a week you'll go home and normal life will start up again. You've been through th hardest part, so chin up, it gets. Ether fast.

Hey Slip! Emma and Stella just treated us to a hot chocolate contest-- 20 pts for taste, 20 for originality & 20 for presentation. I should have stipulated that the winner gets to clean up the kitchen! Raining here today, so we're staying close to home and cozy. Thinking of you so much!!! I have your painting all boxed up with some extra goodies. Thinking I'll get it to UPS this week so that your home helpers can help get it unpacked and up on the wall. BIG LOVE... -j

Hi Mark,
I am thinking of you each day. I hope you are resting well and feeling the fullness of energy and heart that is coursing through us all and through you.
As I wake in the morning, and I finally come to some level of consciousness and remember to take a few deep breaths I think of you. I think of you growing stronger, of the breath connecting to the circulatory system.
Elaine wrote on her facebook page that she was thankful to you for showing us the power of farmers, in the context of the tractorcade protest that happened yesterday in MN. And I was reading an article this morning about civic agriculture project in Toronto, about how the practice of working together, in gardens or cooking or in policy groups, and other food projects creates empowering knowledge networks that lead to a sense of how we achieve justice. Along the way we collectively and individually contribute to a growing food democracy.
The world is shifting this week, we are building stronger connections and stronger community engaged in place and with direct relationships. We are learning rapidly now, with major crises and revelations that we can reweave community, meaningful work, cooperation and sustainability into our everyday lives. I see this everywhere, in vignettes and on the macro scale across the world.
You are a part of this shift, you are part the xylem and phloem of this new food democracy, that has broad implications for the vascular system of our culture and society. As your heart creates new networks and connections and grows electrical fibers and pumps blood, so does the world.
love and deep breaths,
Laura Leigh
