I am another one of the recent heart valve surgery patients and I am schocked and dismayed reading about what Lori, you, and your entire family is going through. I had written Lori a week ago telling her not to be concerned about her scar . . . that seems so irrelevant now. Reading her story, it is clear she is a very special woman and that the two of you have a wonderful family. I was happy to read that you are a doctor . . . that is a huge advantage in this situation.
You have a strong support network of family and friends . . . do not hesitate to lean on them and let them help you take care of your daughters.
Lori is a strong woman and she will get through this with your help. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Good Morning Adam and Lori
I used to work for 2 nephrologists and quite frequently they would have to put patients on temporary dialysis while they recovered from their surgeries. Kidneys need a rest sometimes. Apparently from what I read from some of the guestbook messages, she is a big fighter. She is in my prayers, several times a day. Thank you for taking the time to update us. Prayers from FL.

Adam, I thought you should know that a whole legion of people across the country are praying for Lori, you and your family. Lori has impacted the lives of so many families with her work in the Down syndrome community and we are all thinking about her (and you) throughout each day. Thank you for continuing to update this journal - we wait for each entry with anticipation and hope. I'm not sure I have known someone with more grit or determination than your wife. I can't help but believe that she will pull through this crisis by applying the same spirit she puts towards everything else she tackles. Keep the faith. Love, Dana Halle and the other LP partners.
Lori, I am thinking and praying for you often each day. Adam, I am a high school friend of Lori's. We were on drill team together. I admired her and looked up to her much then (she may not know that) and still do. Adam, my thoughts and prayers are with you, the girls, Lori and the entire medical staff working with you all. Have faith. Love, Kim Coufal Evans
Adam - It's Julie Warren again (Lori's next door neighbor growing up). I just wanted you to know that you guys have been constantly on my mind. I am continually in prayer for her and all of you as well. Jerry and Susan and Mike too! I wish I lived closer (CO) to you to help you out. But, please know that me and my family are praying! Lori is a fighter and an inspiration. Love, Julie
Lori, Adam (and family)today was really hard to walk out of ICU and leave Lori there. I know that she has so many people praying for healing and comforting for her right now. I believe that she will do this. She will get stronger every day. Please know that I love each and everyone one of you and take great care of her. I will be back soon. Love Cyndi. (Barry and Kayci send there love also)
Lori, I am praying for you, have faight in you winning this battle, and am proud to know you. Adam, we have never met (I went to high school with Lori) but I admire you greatly and reading your posts is inspiring me to be a better husband. Thank you for that and God bless you both. Danny Kallus
Adam--I am on DSACT board with Lori and gave a talk with you to the residents at Brac. I am happy to help in any way that I can. I will sign up for meal delivery but am happy to do more. I can go get groceries, I can do errands, you just name it. I "retired" from law a few months ago so I have a lot of flexibility. Please let me know. firstname.lastname@example.org.
Adam - My prayers and everyone I know is praying for Lori and your whole family. As you know I am retired and besides the dogs I have no real commitment (my husband is able to care for himself) I would be more than honored to come and help out in anyway I can. Please feel free to call me if I can give you my time or anything else you need. I have signed up for meals but I want to do more to help. Please let me be one of your Mary Poppins !!! Lori and Adam,
Shocked by the suddenness of your diagnosis and surgery. Keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Much love from our family to yours at this challenging time. Remember, scars are the badges of an interesting life.
-Ernest Graham and family (Bess, Madison, Eason, Henry)
You will make it through this and will be proud to have that scar! You are an awesome example for your kids..and from what I have read in your journal...you have one amazing husband that loves you no matter what!!
Love and prayers,
Lori and Adam,
I just read your journal and story and wanted to say I am praying for you. I had mitral repair surgery 3/2/10 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC. Please keep us updated and I hope Lori overcomes any setbacks you are writing about.
Thinking about you and the girls and Lori here in KC. Praying non-stop and asking a friend to add Lori's name to the LDS Temple Prayer Roll this week. I am also going to donate blood this week in her honor as I am sure she has used lots of donated blood by now!
If I can help by donating a roundtrip Southwest Airlines ticket so a family member/friend can come and help out during the recovery please let me know!
Keep the faith and make sure you take good care of yourself Adam during this difficult time. Lori is so lucky to have you and she needs you to stay strong!
I just read your posts and It is wonderful to hear that Lori is doing better. My prayers are with both of you and the family. I can relate about getting a nanny full time for I will be having to do the same. I have a 2 year old and will be getting a second surgery within the next few months. please stay strong and positive, Lori has many people who care, she has so much light and love around her.
My friend, Rebecca D'Amico, owns a nanny agency, Nannies From the Heart, and I highly recommend them. We've used them many times, especially when i was on bedrest for 2 months. here's the link:
Lori remains in our prayers. May this prayer bring you comfort:
"The light of God surrounds us. The love of God enfolds us. The power of God protects us. The presence of God watches over us. Wherever we are, God is and all is well." by James Dillet Freeman
Rhonda McMahon and family
Sunday afternoon: Kyle just let me know about Lori. I certainly will add the specific problem to the daily prayer that I have been lifting up for a long, long time. Now I will be more specific. Love to all.
You and I have never met before. I went to school with Lori all my life since kindergarten. She is a very special person as you already know. I pray for you, her and your family. So much has been put on your shoulders. Hang in there.
I just read your entire journal. . .I'm so glad the Rise gals forwarded it along. Consider your family at the top of our family's prayer list each morning and evening. We will be praying for health and safety for Lori, for strength for Adam, and love for the girls at this difficult time. I wish we were still in Austin to be able to help out in some way, but you can count on our prayers from afar. Big hugs to all of you! -Meghan & Matt Klassen
Hi, I called ou your name during services today (SUN) during prayers for the people. My best tou and hope you get better and stronger, you are so young to have these problems. Godspeed & Love, Uncle Ted.
Adam, I may have a line on the perfect nanny for you guys. SHe has lived in with my next door neighbors' 3 kids under 7 (about 3 blocks from your house) for the past 4 years. They have loved her but are moving on to someone more part-time who can drive (Hilda cannot) to help shuttle the older kids around to their games, etc. Hilda is looking for a live in situation full-time and they are looking to transition in the next 2 weeks so great timing. She speaks limited english but it great with the kids and manages to communicate well. My neighbor's name is Ellen Kester and her mobile is 659-8516. Hilda is still living with them for the time being. Ellen knows about Lori's medical situation and is happy to facilitate a good bit of this transition for you if you want to call and discuss. Or i can do that for you if you call me and let me know what/when you need specifically. Happy to help as much as needed. Hope this helps. my cell is 731-6615 and email is email@example.com. Feel free to call if I can help with this or anything else. Still working the prayer chain....
Lori, you and Adam and the kids are always in our thoughts even though we are not the best at calling..
Just know you will get through this and whatever help we can provide we are here!!
Love Annette and Kyle and the kids (Van Dyke)
I too have been through heart valve surgery recently & wish to offer my sincere wishes for Lori's full recovery. She is fortunate to have you by her side as she finds her way back to better health. You are both in my thoughts. Joy Vera, Georgetown, TX
I read your entry yesterday about seeing Lori's heart.... what a beautiful way to look at it... it also came to me this morning that while her heart is just sleeping, her spirit may be on a short and much needed visit to her mother to help provide her with even more strength to get through this and carry on with life healthier and stronger - because she will recover! Mark will be there soon. love Barbie xo
Adam and Lori - You and your family are in our thoughts and are wishing Lori a full recovery. I'll ask around about Nanny leads. In the meantime, we are here to help in any way you need. - Christi and Daniel Marrufo 413-2842
Adam and family...Lori is being held up in prayer across the nation. Our thoughts and hearts are with you all during this process. Lori, you are very loved. We are all here moment by moment with you!!!! Tiffany
Dear Lori and Adam
I pray complete healing occur so that Lori can read for herself all the messages of love and prayer that have been sent your way. As Mark said, all of us who have been through our valve surgeries realize the complications that could result as a consequence of our surgeries, but we still choose to have the surgery because after we are healed we will be healthier and stronger. Lori, this will be so for you too.Just know there are complete strangers praying for healing.
Adam & Lori,
You have been through so much now. The love you have for yourselves and your family will be the strength that pulls you through. We are all praying that this burden be lifted from you and you get back to your sweet girls very soon. God bless you and keep you!
I will send down some beautiful photos with Mark of your recent vacation here in Collingwood of Lori and family, we know she will wake soon and be able to see her family in person and in photos surrounding her. She will pull through.
Love Barbie and Mark Barta
As I read your updates I keep you, your family and your friends close in my prayers. Each one of us on HVJ hopes and prays our surgeries will be successful and uneventful. In most cases they are, but Lori's has been much more challenging than what many of us and our families had to deal with.
We all wish you the strength and courage you need over the next few days as Lori fights through her recovery. Do know that there are countless people out here who only know Lori through her journal; who have been down part of this path she is on and are praying as hard as our hearts will allow us that she makes progress over the next few days.
We keep Lori and your family in our hearts and prayers,
